Swap hunt?

Not sure if this is the right forum or not. But, I had a wild hair the other night and thought I'd bounce it off you guys.

I'm thinking of offering a bear hunt over bait here in Minnesota in exchange for a hunt somewhere else in the country. It would be for me and my wife. Open to Antelope, deer, lions, And any and all suggestions?

You would put in with us on next year's drawing. Never know if you get drawn or not. I've been drawn three years in a row but might have to skip a year if my number doesn't come up.

I'd offer this hunt for two people. Prefer a family thing like husband or wife or father and son/daughter.

Details to be worked out but thought I'd bounce this off the group.

Let me know what you think

And any and all suggestions?
Hell Randy, I will get things going by offering you a first class Nebraska sand hills coyote hunt. I could also arrange for some goose hunting as well. You are welcome any time after November 1 of this year.

Q,

Randy -

I had a long post on this but the e-gods blew it away so it seems.

The brief is that I too am interested in swapping hunts. The hang up has to do with legal stuff - such as guide laws. Here only a registered guide can offer a hunt for value received. Can be a big problem if the exchange is toooo formal. Kinda of kills the whole thing. Not sure how other states do it. Me I can offer nothing too interesting except moose, caribou, black bear & predators such as wolf, lynx, fox etc. No guide required.. but what I take in exchange could be constured by the ever viliance guide police as receiving compensation. So all I can do is "help" a fellow hunter out by offering information and the loan of gear. I can not and do not expect (yes I do!!) the same in return. But that is IMHO the sinker in swap hunts!!

Q,

Thanks for the offer but I'd have to swap a hunt for something the wife likes. She doesn't do coyotes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif But, I do get out and travel the country for coyotes. Maybe our paths will cross someday anyway. And, we live on the edge of a goose refuge, we kill 'em by the truck load. (well, not really by the truck load but rather by the legal and ethical limits set forth by law and what we can consume.)

How's that for getting my butt out of hot water? HA HA.

John,

I'd love to come to Alaska and hunt with you. That has been a life long dream. What I can't figure out is why you'd want to come to Minnesota and hunt our puny bears when you can hunt them right there? Just like to get out and see a different area?

Randy

say randy i could probaly set something up to guide you for coyotes in the western part of ND i know you would really enjoy that! LOLOL i could let you come out sharptail hunting with me this coming weekend if your looking for someone to hunt with. Looks like i might be hunting by myself right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey ND,

A real western ND coyote hunt!!!?? Sounds great. HA HA.

I do enjoy sharpies and so do my dogs. My weekends are booked though for the next month and a half. I have to shoot squirrels at our annual gathering this weekend and then give bears one more try the following. Then duck and goose opens and I'll be in the blind every morning.

Shoot a sharpie for me though.

And, maybe I'll catch up with you on the prairie this winter.

Randy

How about whitetail deer in the Mid-Hudson Valley?

The houses I just bought are on the same ridge line that the largest deer ever killed in Ulster county was taken last year. ( By a co-worker)
168 score, 11 point buck.( See Rack magazine)
Why just the other day I looked out into my back yard and saw a 30 point buck. See, I was on my ninth beer when...

Anyway, I don't have time to travel, but if for some reason the cottage is still vacant I would be honored to have you and the wife stay there for a bit while you hunt.( Free of charge) I don't think the drive would kill you. My friend Eric shot a 139.5 score deer last year and we both have several areas scouted for this year.

In the future if I did have more time to travel we could work something out. Think about it, even if the cottage is rented I have an extra bedroom.
N.Y. is really trying to get rid of some deer this year.

Hi NYnovice,

What a great offer! Sounds like a lot of fun to me. What I'm really looking for, however, is something we don't generally get a chance to hunt around home. We have a ton of whitetails here at home and I've actually slowed down on hunting them because I've killed so many.

I did share this with my wife. She thought it suonded fun too. It's too late to take any trips this fall but your offer is still burning in the back of my brain.

Do you get to bear hunt in NY?

Randy

Hey Randy,
Before I even take up your offer two ways, I'll shoot it down with one huge sinker, i.e. the obvious cost of travel.
I hunted coyotes on the PM and CG board hunts in Dec last year. The experience was that of a life time to me, and I was supported by my American hunting buddies all over Az in those 10 days. But I came home broke. Besides my currency (10 to 1 on the $ now versus 1 to 1 when my wife and I toured the US in 1980!!), the flight ticket is also a killer.
However, if you want to come here and hunt with me, you're welcome. Although I do offer formal safaris for profit gain, we can do this differently. I can help you organise your own hunts and tours from my home, while you stay here for free. When I go out hunting, you come with me and share the direct costs just like any of my other local hunting buddies would. Just know that we are not into the expensive trophy collector stuff, big five and that lot, only the humble species of African game.
But I don't think I'll make it to that bear soon, need few more years of savings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ps. ….. and if you need advice on how to hunt the red fox, there is a handy link to an informative site /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

This year will be my first at bear here in n.y..
I'd love to swap in the future but I'm too busy now. I just moved in to my new house and I've had the computer set up for about five min.. Next year might be better. I'm sitting on a work stool while I write this in a half painted room while my mother-in-law washes my bathtub.

Here comes the wife...

OK Randy,

How's this.. I have a friend who is really into bear hunting he has a ranch in Mexico south of Laredo Texas. I am sure he would trade a hunt on his ranch for LARGE wild Pig, Deer and Coyotes for a bear hunt in your area. He has a very nice house in Monterrey with guest house, pool, game room, etc.

The trade would be for my friend and I at your place and you and your wife at his place, sound good?

This is a great bunch of offers! I want to go to Alaska, New York and Africa. (Lochi, you shouldn't tempt people like that! If my ship ever comes in, you can count on my visiting you!)

But, the Mexico thing... There's potential here. That sounds like a trip my wife and I would really enjoy! We need to do some checking on regs and such. In the mean, time, Marco, send me an email at [url=mailto:foxhunter_56308@hotmail.com.

I realize this post is somewhat dated by now, by I have offered swap hunt here in Europe, where it is not an uncommon practice.
I can offer wild boar, fallow deer, roe deer & mouflon ram. Some wingshooting too.
I would always be keen to organize a swap hunt and make a friend.
anyone interested please let me know.
I would be especially interested in Alaska...
