Swarovski or Schmidt and Bender

Hi,
I have a Leupold 6-25x50 with a Leupold Dot Recticle on my 22-250. I find it hard to see the thin crosshair when I am shooting Red fox at night, I am going to change for a Swarovski 4-16x50 with TDS4 Recticle, or Schmidt & Bender 3-12x50 with Milldot Recticle, any advice would be welcome. Thanks

Ireland? WOW!

Why not consider a scope with an illuminated reticle? I see Leupold has one in the Vari-X III in 4.5-14x50 and you could probably get it for around the price of a Swarovski. My research sez about $625.00.

Hi Billywill,
Welcome to the board!! Great to hear from someone in other countries. Wished I had some of that GOOD Irish Whiskey over here!!

I have used all the scopes you are talking about. The S&B's have the better optics but for what you are looking at, I would look at the Lighted Reticle Leupolds. Their system is much better than any of the rest I have seen and should give you what you are looking for. The 3.5-10x50mm is really good! I am currently using three of the Euro-models and like them very well.

What are the gun laws like where you are and what do you have in the way of predators to hunt?? Do you have yotes in Ireland???

Hello SteveM.
The Whiskey is good but does nothing for your aim. Thank you for your advice on the Scopes.
The Gun laws are Strict here (some might say stupid) We are allowed up to a swift on a ordinary licence, From 22-250 up you need a Deer Licence, 222 and 223 are banned altogether, and Reloading is not Allowed.
The only real Predator we have is the Red Fox. about ten years ago their Pelts were worth some mony but not any more, we call them at night,on a good nights you can get 10

Billywill,
I hear ya on the Whiskey!! Makes my wobble zone much bigger! I was afraid of that on the gun laws. We here in the US are the last hold out in the world. They are working to take away our rights everyday and doing a real good job at it.

Hides are not worth nothin here anymore either. The PETA tree-huggers have all but killed the fur industry but it may be coming back from what I hear.

I really like hearing from our fellow hunters. Everyone needs to know what it is like to have their gun rights messed with by the Govt. Maybe it will scare some sense into them.

I think you will like these optics alot for what you have in mind. Have been told that Leupold scope models offered in Euro are different than the ones over here. Don't know what the difference is?? Do you know???

Billywill,
Again welcome aboard. I learned my leason on dot raticals years ago. They are great for target shooting but not worth a hoot for hunting in lower lite. I get duplex crosshairs on all my scopes for hunting. I have a Leupold Vari Xll in 2 x 7 on a .17 K-Hornet with a lite mounted under the barrel for nite hunting, and even with a red lense on the lite I have no trouble seeing the crosshairs. I`m not sold on the lited raticals yet even though I`ve heard some good things about them but I`m still don`t think that they are worth the extra money to me.
