SWIFT SCOPES?

Any comments on these scopes would be greatly appreciated, especially on light transmission. I am looking @ a 6-18x44 for my Tikka .243. Thanks

My father-in-law has one on his Ruger 77 hornet. Decent scope for the price. The warranty is hard to beat. I haven't had it out in low light, but accuracy was respectable. The Pentax Gameseeker is another respectable line for about the same money. I haven't needed the warranty yet, but the quality is slightly better in my opinion and the price is similar. E. Arthur Brown has them on sale now for 4x-16x-50mm with ballistic plex for $139 shipped. They also carry Swifts at good prices as well.

Got my Swift Premier @ EABCO. It is a 4-12x40 AO mounted on a 10/17mach2. Nice clear scope for what it is. I like it for sniping squirrels & such.

Can't comment on low light clarity or recoil handling though....

I have two, a 3.5x10 and a 4x12x40AO. They both stay zeroed in good and the 4x12 is on my 22-250 and I have shot lots of stuff in low light with no problems.

I have one of these on my 17 HMR. It really is OK, but I am going to swap it out with something else. It would be fine for most people I think, but I keep getting more fussy about my glass so therefore I am going to put something else on it, possibly a 3200 Bushnell.

I have a Swift 6-18x44 scope it is pretty good for the price. It holds zero very well and its pretty clear up to 18x. They are definatly worth $200. The eye relief isn't the longest but it gets the job done. I'm still going to up grade to a Leupold when I get the money.

I own 2 of the 2x-7x-40 scopes. They are extremely clear and bright. One is mounted on my 12ga 3" slug barrel and has withstood 100+ rounds 3" slugs.

My one experience with Swift scopes was a 4-12 and that thing was real crap. It seemed bright enough and clear enough. The problem was how badly the image distorted as the scope was panned. Everything within the field of view would change shape. Now that's just lousy glass. I've had it in a few other scopes - including a couple Leupold vari x II 4-12's that weren't very good - but this was by far the worst. Distortion is great for a funhouse mirror but not in a riflescope. Maybe it was a fluke, who knows? Maybe they just have spotty QC, maybe-maybe-maybe. You don't buy something hoping to maybe get a good one, or thinking you'll maybe get a bad one. I gave that scope to a friend who needed one. And guess what......despite warnings he'd also bought a Swift scope and the reticle broke almost immediately. He agreed that this one of mine was terrible. And neither of us would ever consider buying another Swift. It's a cheap scope and worth just about what it costs.

I have several, and been very happy. Never a problem, bright and clear. Killed a deer with the faintest of light, right at legal shooting time, opening morning a couple of years ago. The deer had no idea whether it was a Swift scope or a top dollar scope.

I have a fixed 4 and a 6x18. No problems with my 2.

I know Swift had been sold in the last year or so to another company. They used to use U.S. made Schott glass out of Pa. I don't know if thats still happening with the new owners though.

The First time I looked through a swift scope I was really impressed with the glass. I think the glass is pretty good in low light. I got a 4.5-14 for my 22-250. The only problem I had with it was the fast focus eye piece
had unacceptable slack. You could wiggle it and the image and POA would move. I set it wrapped it with electrical tape and hunted with it for the season Killed lots of deer and predators. I sent it back explaining the slack was not acceptable. Swift sent me another just like it. I returned it they sent me a new one. I Just Ebayed it and got a Pentax Game seeker. I've never found anything wrong with the Pentax. I think its a cut above the swift, Its not a thousand dollar scope but it will do anything a thousand dollar scope will. Like comparing a VW to a Corvette. A vw ain't no show car but will get you where your going. With today's gas, insurance and taxes everything has to be counted. The Pentax scope it nice and tight. I just hope the Pentax people don't read these comments and raise tariffs on us. Its nice to be able to base the options of a new gun on the price of a comparable scope.
