T/C Icon Weathersheild .243 Review(Pic Heavy)

Well this will be about as informal as it gets on a rifle review, and the writing will not be superb, but I'll give it my best shot for my T/C Icon in .243

Initial Impressions.

Rifle is a touch heavier than what I thought it was going to be, but not out of the question. Weathersheild finish is nice, not glossy at all. Houge stock will take some getting used to but I think it is a very stable platform. I will not be able to paint it due to the "rubbery" texture of the stock, but it will keep me from dropping it in sub-freezing temps and snow this winter, so I think I'll grow to like it.

Very robust bolt, bigger than any other rifle I have to include my 300WSM, and very smooth. 60 degree bolt throw is very nice, would not interfere with any scope out there. Trigger is NICE, I only have one trigger better and that's a custom trigger on my 700. Breaks very clean and is fully adjustable if I ever feel the need. Which I don't think will happen.

I mounted her up with a Burris FFII 4.5-14x42 with Weaver Tactical rings, very sturdy when mounted to the integral bases. Just one less thing to go wrong.

Now on to shooting. Shooting Federal Premium .243 70gr Nosler BT's. Listed MV is 3450, but with a 24in bbl and taking off 50ft per second(cuz they never hit published speed) I would guess I was in the neighborhood of 3300fps.

When I mounted up the scope I had the guy at the shop bore sight for me, as he is always very close, and this time was no exception. He was dead on vertically and about 2in to the right. I fired two shots there, adjusted and shot 3 three round groups. I was very pleased. All are right at an inch, and they kept getting smaller the more I shot. With the last one being very close to 1/2, probably about 9/16 or so.

So all in all I am a very happy camper

And this was a little fun in between shots with my AR. These were fired from the kneeling with a front rest only, at 100. Hornady 55gr SP's

Congratulations on the rifle. Looks like you have a shooter.

I have an Icon Weathershield in 308 Winchester that I picked up last year. I have been very happy with it so far but have not had a chance to do any serious load development yet. I did shoot this group a couple days ago with some Barnes Vor-Tx 168 grain TTSX's.

Now that's impressive! Great shooting and looks to me you might not have to work to hard to find a good load for that!

Congrats and thanks!

I have the Icon in 243 and Weathershield. They are awesome guns.Crazy accurate. The target that came with the gun showed a .28 3 shot group. It is one of the guns I will never sell.

If you decide to shoot deer with it.I recommend the 85 gr TSX or 95 gr Nosler BT. With the Barnes bullets I am 80/thousandths off the lands.

Pretty seay to load for.If your looking for a few recipes let me know.

Darn it, my test target only showed a 3 shot group of .32

I almost bought an Icon in .243 Winchester last year when I bought the 308. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not pulling the trigger on that one.

Those are both phenomenal groups guys!

Not sure what I'm going to be using for deer this year, I have plenty others that are "larger" bores. But if I did I will probably use the TSX or TTSX. I am a fan of those bullets, they shoot really well in my .280 and are just a complete hammers! I don't load yet, but should be here in the near future.(soon as I get my spot cleaned out) and the .243 is going to be the first that I load for.

Thanks again guys, it's a fun one to shoot. I hope to get out to shoot it again tomorrow.
