Not sure if they have discontinued the Venture as heard a whisper they may introduce a new Venture II by mid summer? I have both Ventures and Compasses and really couldn't see that much difference in the barreled actions, same rifling, Compass has 3 position safety like a Model 70 ! Both have excellent triggers ( Compass requires a 5 min mod) Ventures
Biggest problem is the bolt handle is TINY, poor design , impossible to get ahold of in cold weather with gloves???? However
Glades Armory has a tactical longer robust handle, that completely solves that problem! Honestly the biggest difference really
Is in the STOCKS , The Venture has a Tikka quality X braced forearm, that is light years ahead of 99% of the under $4/500
Guns, the rubberized Hogue inserts are 500% better than any of the molded in Checkering on all the other stocks! And more
grippy in rainy/snowy weather than any stock I own except my Sako 85 Finnlight , the Venture also comes right from the factory " pilar bedded" and even a Tikka does offer that! The Compass stock is a relitive to a Ruger American, Patriot, Savage
sorta, Extreame cost saver for the manufacturer, low end flimsy, twist the forearm all over the place , pretty hopeless stock!
However a Compass in a Boyd's laminate is a pretty darn NICE little outfit! It is obviously T/C answer to the American, but they brought it out 3 years to late?? At $299 with a $75 rebate (if you file online you can have your money in less than 2 weeks!) It is the best value out there. My 22/250 shot moa right out of the box, in the Boyd's stock it shoots .5" all day long.
