Taurus 22 magnum pistol

I was in the candy store (My girl friends phrase for gun store) and saw a Taurus 94 or 941 model. It was a 4" stainless, and shot 22 mag. It also is an 8 shot. Has anyone had this pistol, or heard about it. It would be used for carrying around out in the deseart and would be a side arm for coyotes. Any comments would be appreciated.

I don't own one but i have shot one and it shot fine no problems , it would make a good gun for carrying around in the woods or in your case desert ( good gun for snakes using rat shot ) I own a 6 shot rossi in 22 mag and i love it , i think they are great little pistols and if i had to get rid of all my guns ( heaven forbid ) my 22 mags would be the last to go

I have had one of these in 22 mag for about 8 or 10 years and I use it for the very purpose you indicate. They are very reliable and very accurate. The screws that move the rear sight back and forth have a tendency to come loose if shot a lot . You will need to put a little locking compound on them ( not much) or you will not be able to move them . Taurus has replaced the rear sight for me once at no charge . Great gun . Mine is blue but I would get the brushed stainless version .I would probably get a 22LR if I bought this gun again.

I've got this gun in 22lr (9 shot rather than the 8 you've got) mine was a first year gun and like Ramjet, Tuarus replaced my rear sight. I'd like to have nothing but good things to say about my gun but can't. It's almost perfect, I like the size and weight, when clean it's accurate enough for my needs. Having 9 shots was handi when I skinned a lot. I'd load it with 6 shorts and 3 mini-mags. The shorts did the job every time, but having the 3 mini-mags seemed in some way logical. I've carried it a bunch of miles. The bad part of it is that it fouls horribly. You can't get a cleaning rod through it after just 50 rounds. Gobs of lead sticks in the barrel. I've had it back to Taurus 3 times and all they do is ream the forcing cone a bit deeper. I used a Tubbs fire lapping kit on it. The barrel was beautifully shinny, but it still fouls. All in all it's no big deal, 50 finishing off shots is a lot of shooting. Plinking with it is deffinately out of the question though.

On my recomendation a buddy of mine got the magnum version. He liked it, but the casing tended to stick in the chamber, he polished them a bit and the gun seems fine now.

All in all, even with the bad things I've aid about mine, I really like these Taurus revolvers though.

Michael,
Have you tried different brands of ammo. I've found that the Rem. Thunderbolts will clog up a sewer drain....no problems at all with the Federal bulk from Wal-Mart.

Man I haven't had all the problems that Michael has had but ocassionally when it's dirty the cases are a little sticky . I mostly shoot Fedral 50gr HP's . I can usually shoot about 200 rounds before I have a problem with sticking .I have noticed in all of my 22's that the powder seems to burn dirty .I think this is what causes the sticking .

I have the 941, 4", stainless, .22 Mag. Great gun, mine has 2,000 rounds through it at the range. And like the others my rear sight blade went missing and Taurus replaced the entire rear assembly. It may have taken 10 days total. Buy it over - sure and without reservation. It is not as smooth, durable or accurate as a Smith but it is half the cash with a great warranty.

Best regards,
chalmitch
