The problem can't be fixed without defying physics. A smooth bore gives fullish patterns, a rifled bore gives donuts. The judge isn't the first combo out there, they've just done better on marketing.
No matter what you end up with a poorly performing shotgun and a poorly performing pistol. Useable to an extent but never in the same ballpark as a dedicated weapon.
With a choke to stop the wad from spinning the .45/.410 combo's generally work very well with .410 shells. Contenders have been doing great for years, I can't tell much difference in performance between my .410 dedicated shotgun and my BFR .410 revolver. They both pattern alot closer than I would have expected.
