Taxidermy question...

Has anyone here ever had a juvenile fox mounted? My parents have been watching three grey's the past few weeks around their house and the young one was killed on the road this morning. Being the redneck I am I headed straight over and had it in the freezer within an hour of being hit with the car... It is in great shape with no hide damage and weighs just under 6 pounds so I think it may make a really cool mount.

So my question is, does anyone know if they make a form that small?

There are some smaller fox forms available. Take it to your taxidermist & let him take some measurements & see if he can find a form for it. If not, freeze drying is another option.

Anything can be mounted, The question is, is it in season? Season here in Michigan don't start till October and you need fur harvesters license. No taxidermist around hear will touch one. Can't speak for your state.

Psycodog, Yes a "good" taxidermist can mount anything, if you are willing to pay for the extra time involved in making and fitting, etc. a form for your critter. Sometimes the work/cost just isn't worth the $$$$.

I know they do fawns. I gave the one in town 4 fawns this spring. Two does tryed to jump a cemetary fence that is made out of iron rods and they never made it. Found out one thing though, our cops can't hit anything from more than 10 feet away.

Yep A good taxidermist will breathe life back into the kit. Some interesting mounts if the guy has some imagination.

Here's a grey fox I got in AZ.
My buddy in Wa. did the mount.

Thanks frozenbutt, you made me laugh. Our cops must have gone to the same training school. Not to be too rough on them, there's not much call for sharp shooters around here.

Redfrog, I've admired that mount since the first time I saw you post it and intend to do something similar. If I can get my guy to do this pup I think it could come out pretty cool...

You should of seen the dirt flying. I almost pulled my 1911 out and took care of it myself but ever since one put a gun to my head because I had a ice scraper/snow brush on the seat of my truck I figured they are alittle jumpy around here.
