well, I figure Ill ask here.

im in the market for a single shot rifle / shotgun. im wanting to get a 16 inch 357 Rem Mag and 16 inch 410 bore barrels right now but would like to get a 308 Win barrel down the road. im interested in the short and lighter combos that I can get the girls shooting and hunting with but want them to have good quality gear. also I really like the flexibility of the TC frames and barrels.

question is: where can I get these barrels. I know that im going to have to go the custom route on them. also, should I go with the Encore of the contender G2? newbie to all this converstion, switch this and make that type thing! LOL

thanks, Jered

If your going to want to go 308 later on, then you'll have to go with an Encore. I've had Contenders and Encores and from an accuracy point of view have had better luck with the Contenders.

However the Encore does offer much more flexibility, because they can handle the big centerfires.

Do a Google search for MGM rifle barrels, they produce some pretty good quality barrels.

BTW if I were going to get a .357 barrel made, I would go with the 357Maximum, you can still shoot 357mag. But that's just me. I love the 357max.

I would go with the Encore. You can get just about any caliber barrel you would want for them, the Contender you are limited on calibers.

Definitely go with the Encore for the range of calibers you're looking at and the flexibility to add others. I shoot several in factory and custom barrels from .17 HMR to .260 Rem and in both pistol and rifle configurations and all are very accurate. My customs are made by MGM and they make great barrels. Not sure how old your girls are but I wouldn't necessarily go too short with the barrels because of the noise and recoil. The Encore set-up is compact to start with and, unless you prefer shooting a pistol barrel, a barrel in the 20" - 24" balances pretty well on the frame.
