TC encore pro hunter 300 win mag and r19

I loaded some 300 win mag shells using reloader19, my book said that the max load is 74 grains with a 180 grain bullet. The data is using a 24 in barrel my barrel is 28 in. At 72 grains the neck ends of my cases were splitting. The cases are federal but was the first reloading. Does the barrel length increase cause this, I know it will increase velocity. Anyone have any input on this. Thanks

Annealing will help but more than likely wont be a permanant cure. I would say it is a headspace issue. I fire form with a cast bullet and virgin brass. I also annealed the virgin brass. The tc barrel on my 300 wm had a generous enough chamber I gained capacity.
Anything you have read, seen done or heard that works with a bolt gun can pretty much be tossed to the side when working with a break action. It just doesn't apply or work most of the time. Have look at mike bellms website.
I use a compressed load of H1000 and a 180 SST.

Thanks! I'll try annealing my brass next time. As for the head space, would I need more or do I have to much. These were my first batch of 300 wm reloads. I bumped the load back to 71 gr and everything seemed fine, had about a 1 moa group at a hundred which is fine for me as a deer load. I was just curious as to what was going on. Thanks again.
