I just got my first varmint rifle a 22-250. I have seen that you can teflon coat your rifle what are the advantages to this? Should I do it?
I have done about a dozen rifles in teflon - it is a pain in the tail. You need to be able to cook the rifle at 300-350 degrees for an hour. I had to build a special over to do it in.
It does last, but it is not as tough as bluing - it will scratch off if treated roughly.
If you just want to do one or two, it pays to send them out for a commercial coating like Duracoat.
