Tell me about batteries and chargers

I am buying a Scorpion X1B which I think uses 8 AA batteries. Apparently eneloop batteries are the choice. Which charger should I buy? I think I read that you don't want a fast charger, so what charger and features do I need?

Same here: Maha MH -C801D bought it here: Thomas Distributing

On the slow charge vs the fast chargers and even the recondition mode on the MAHA. Eneloops are a different creature I have found. They are not your standard recharable. I bought 20 of the Eneloop XX AA batteries. When I first received them I read all of the information (too much information on camera sites, flashlight forums etc) so even though they came precharged and were low discharge batteries I decided since it was my first charge cycle to not only slow charge them but also recondition them since it probably had been a while since they were fully charged. It made a lot of sense given everything that I had read.

With the MH- C801D you can do a slow + recondition charge and that's what I did. Each group of 8 batteries took over 30 hours to complete with this method. After receiving terrible performance from that first charge I called Thomas Distributing's owner and he said to just forget all of the fancy stuff and hit them with a full powered fast charge. After I did that they worked as expected and I received exceptional performance with the XX's. By the way he said that if I didn't like them I could return them for a full refund within 30 days (cool offer).

I'm totally making up these numbers but if you charge them 526 times vs 568 times who cares if it takes you so much longer to get the job done. Yes, maybe in absolute number of recharges the slower charge is the way to go, but these days the fast charge and I get along just fine.

I have always used the batteries and the charger that came with the FoxPro call. BUT, here lately I am having some problems with the batteries getting so hot that the battery tray is melting and becoming useless. Talked to FoxPro and it could be a problem with either the call or the charger. I'm leaning toward the charger, and I guess my point is that it might be worthwhile to buy a charger other than the FoxPro ones.
