Tell me about Nevada.

HI folks,
The company I work for is opening a branch just outside of Los Vegas, and they have asked me to look at the place and possibly take a management position out there. What can you tell me about the area. I grew up just south of San Francisco, so I know a little about the area, but I need to know other stuff. For instance, what is the political climate there. Republicans or Democrats? What are their gun laws as far as owning cirtian guns and buying others? Can you hunt on Sundays. Are there any good public lands to hunt deer and elk? What are housing prices like. I live just outside Washington DC now, and have been here since 1985, so most of what I knew about Nevada has changed. I'm not into gambling or casinos, si I need to know what other kinds of activities there are in the area. What can you guys tell me?
Thanks,
John

I moved from Montgomery County, MD to northern NV 7 years ago. We don't have much use for Vegas. It is the most city type and the most liberal part of Nevada. All the rest of Nevada is very conservative.

There is plenty of public land. 90% of nevada is public land.

No restrictions on guns, BUT, Clark County does require registration within 24 hours of all guns. That scares me!!

Even in Vegas you can live for a fraction of what it costs you now.

If you like warm weather you'll like Nevada. I used to drive truck thru there a bunch and it can get mighty hot around Vegas.

You might pull up the Nevada fish and game regs and take a look a them. That would help you out with the hunting questions.

Most importantly how easy is it to draw big game tags? Sounds like some sort of paradise to me.

Not too easy. I know people who have been trying for 20 years and haven't got one yet.

From a bunch of drive-throughs but only a couple visits over many years: Las Vegas is a monument to bad taste.....it attracts people who like that stuff......traffic is miserable and you won't like the way people drive on the freeways......it's been growing real fast for years and things won't be getting any better.....the place is just beastly hot during summer. In this country, LV is one of the very last places I'd choose to live. But it's probably about directly the opposite of Washington DC and would definitely be a new experience.

Well, out here we do get the heat, and the humidity with it. At least there I here it is a dry heat. I grew up driving in San Francisco, and DC traffic is almost as bad. I don't see how LV traffic can be any worse. What I'm really interested in is the politics. Out here it is so left leaning, you never know from one day to the next what stupid bill is going to be introduced, and voted on in the middle of the night, then enacted as soon as possible. Then it takes months or years to over turn it. Like amnesty for border jumpers. Or a goofy governor that decides on his own that no citizen should have a gun so he sets up a division of the state police to confiscate whenever possible, any firearm they can get their hands on, and you end up fighting for years to try to get them back. That's if they don't "get lost" first.
Also, how are prices for gas and desiel fuel. I just paid $2.839 for regular gas this afternoon.
Thanks,
John
