I heard that terriers are good dogs for runnin coons and gettin them out of holes. Does anybody agree with this? How do they match up with a badger? A guy in the area sent one down a hole after a bobcat and got it out after abit.
 
MY terriers are very good hole dogs and will run coons, yotes cats!! But i wouold sure think again sending one after a badger!!

Badgers are tough on dogs as stated be careful what you do. Pats, Jagt and harder Jack Russells are great hole dog as well as a few other breeds.
 
Hey Vargy I heard Julys are good badger dogs. Feed a few to a badger them whack him in the head with a stick when he is naping after his belly is full. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I have yorkies that i use for rabbits. We use to breed beagles for rabbit hunting and selling. I have a 10 year old yorkie that will out hunt any beagle we ever had. He is fantastic.He runs right in the holes and pulls them out. And he has a very good nose. I have won 2 county rabbit hunts with him when he was a little younger.As good a hunter as he is i would not send him in after a badger.

Badgers are hard on dogs, I have sicked dogs on a badger on open ground and they will shut it down,but if you like your dogs, you better be close so you can kill the badger.My dog will grab a dead badger out of a hole , but if its in a hole on the fight, he will stand and bark.I killied 67 badger last year,they are BAD NEWS.They will whip most dogs if they can't get away and down a hole.
 
So what breed is the best of the best when it comes to gettin fur out of holes? and does anybody know where i can get a good dog or two?
 
id be carefull bout who you tell about the yorkie goin to ground in michigan, its illegal to run rabbits outta their holes here, i think its stupid and would be be fun as heck to have some earthdogs but its in the rules

Jag terriers and patterdale are probly the best hole dogs. I have never had one just heard. I have also heard they can get agresive with other dogs to!!
My 1/2 jack and 1/2 fox terrier does a great job for me!!

I've had Airedales for then last thirty years. Seen them kill a bunch of varmits including badgers. Seen scores of coons pulled out of the ground and a few coyotes. If the hole isn't too small, a tough Airedale is hard to beat.

Hunting Terrier's from good line's are Great Hunter's ! You might say "Hunting Machine's" ! Jagdterrier's and Patterdale's and Jack Russell's also Lakeland's. What part of Nebraska are you In ? I might know where a Good Terrier Is at. Send me a PM I might be able to get you a Good one. Take Care !
 
I cannot find anything in the michigan dnr rule book about the dogs in the hole thing. I do not send mine in there. He just does it on his own. I do send him in brush piles but not the holes. Please post the link for that would you.
 
this is what the rulebook says and what was quoted to me by the dnr when i asked them online a while ago 'It is unlawful to ... "destroy, disturb, or molest at any time any bear, beaver, muskrat, raccoon, squirrel, mink, badger, or rabbit house, hole, burrow, nest, dam, or den which may be used by such animals."' so i would guess that means that earthdogs used purposely for that would be illegal, and it says that ferreting or using weasels for the same purpose is illegal, turns out the mi dnr wont let us do anything fun

Naw Weasel we'd huddle around so no one could see than shove ya in with the critter. We're just that kind of bunch. We don't leave anyone out.
