Texas hog question...

So, I was wondering if any part of Texas has a denser hog population? I do not have any stats at all.

I was also wondering if the hogs are typically bigger in North Texas?

Anyone information is appreciated. I'm just learning as I go.

Thanks!

You have hog fever I do believe, Tonester.

Texas is full of hogs, they literally are damm near everywhere. Not too many on the far western side of the state, from what I understand.

Big ones everywhere.

I've hunted south near Dilley, which had a huge population, and up west of Lufkin with what seemed to me, a good population as well. Also west of Houston, about 45 minutes due west from home, not too far out of the city. EVERYWHERE had big, big pigs.

I grew up in Colorado and have been in Tx 8yrs or so and there are tons of pigs! Was a whole new thing to me...

We were going to make a stand one day and noticed a bunch of pigs out in a field rooting around, we blew the stand off and got as close as we could to the pigs, was a pretty good poke at them. Anyway we killed 5 out of probably 12-15, here was the biggest one:

Pretty cool to be able to see pigs when coyote hunting and be able to switch it up a little, they make great coyote food too.

Well sir you are correct!!! I am finding myself learning more about pigs every day. The hunts are a rush -- I am already planning my next trip!!

there seems to be more hogs in far east Texas than anywhere. there seems to be larger hogs in North Central Texas. The thicker the cover and the more water ways the more hogs.

the largest hog I have seen pics of was in south central tex just north of Baycity it was hog that lived in a thick creek bottom between milo and rice fields and had taken his share of dogs out of the game the last couple of years. the farmer finally caught him one night with his 30-30 weight was over 500lb I'm told and was a true wild hog

from what I understand they get big when they have 3 things, plenty of food as in crops or mast, cover from the heat, and water.

I went to a hog seminar the other day and they stressed trapping in the shade if you wanted to have a live hog, as they don't sweat.
