This fall I am going to sell a few bobcats (hopefully) and maybe a few yotes and fox.I have never sold before, only predator hunted for the joy and thrill of calling animals in. Question is, bobcats are not considered fur bearing animals, so do i need my trappers license if i stick to yotes and bobcats? I know i will for fox, but reading the TPWD annual, i got a little confused.

And for those not in Texas, i am curious to know how your state does this, and if Bobcats are fur bearing animals where you live. Thanks

I shoot alot of coyotes in the oklahoma panhandle and some bobcats. Bobcats are concidered fur baring animals here.I also shoot several coyotes in west texas. 2 years ago a buddy and I went to west texas and shot several coyotes skinned them all and mixed them in with the one we had shot in oklahoma panhandle. The fur buyer picked everone from west texas out. He wouldnt buy them

hm...Thanks,

From looking at that, coyotes and bobcats are not furbearing, I dont need a trappers license to sell them, and they dont fall into any season (i knew yotes didnt) but this confuses me, as to why the state regulats like this. Hell, its nice, saves me the 18 bucks on a trappers license, but you would think that to sell anything to a fur trader, you would need the license. Oh well, thanks again.

you have to have a fur bearer's license to sell furs of any kind, but not to keep them. You have to have a hunting license though!

Glenn, even if they aren't a "fur-bearer" as defined by the state, you still need one? I would think so, thats what has me so confused! I just dont want my butt getting a ticket this winter when the traders come in.

Also, fur season starts November 1st, yet there is no season on Bobcats or coyotes. So why dont the fur traders start before november? I would think coats start looking good by the end of september?

yes if you are saving furs for sale you have to have a trappers license.Fur season starts in Nov. because furs generally aren't any good especially in Texas before then.If you save them early and try to sell them they will dock you severely, they can usually tell the difference.
You can save all the furs you want so long as you don't try and sell them without the proper license.
also on bobcats you need a cites tag for certain things ,not sure what all and apparently neither are some of the officials .
you know it really sucks ,that you have to have a masters in biology, marine biology and have a law degree to understand most of the regs try calling 2-3 different offices and ask them the same question and see how many different answers you get!

VMaster59 I am hunting in Gains county.I have 5 brother in laws that I farm with that live arround Seminole. My full time job is running a hog slaughter plant in oklahoma all my time off I am down there. I really thaugt that the coyotes from there would sell as there diet being high protien peanuts
Boone

you do not need a trappers license to sell coyote and bobcat pelts in Texas. They are not considered fur-bearers. You do need a trappers license to sell fox and racoon though.
