Having trouble finding a definitive answer that I’m looking for. No matter how much I try online, I can’t seem to find any big public land pieces to hunt coyotes.

All the private ground I had access too has now been sold and new owners, to which I had no avail getting new permission…

I just want to get into country I haven’t called before, and just give it a whirl. Any advice of points in the right direction, are much much appreciated. Just trying to do my homework before I go.

Very little public land in Texas. I think there is some in East Texas, but IDK of any down south. Most everything of any size is leased for deer hunting on an annual basis.

That’s kind of what I’m running into. I don’t expect, nor want, anyone to give out there favorite spots or country they’ve got found. By no means.

I was just hoping if there was any decent calling ground a guy could get to, which is why I was looking for public, then maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

Your best bet here is to find someone with a "deer lease" that will let you hunt on it outside of deer season. BUT ... some of them don't want anyone on the property after mid-summer because it puts the deer on alert.

Like was already said ... not much public land here anymore.

Thank you. I think I’m going to have to scratch the Texas idea. I’ve got family on the TX/OK border, but they’ve only got about 10-12 acres into TX. I may just run up there instead and hunt OK, maybe I can find an in for TX while I’m up there.

There is a Land & Leases section on THF that might help you out if you inquire politely and state your needs. Most folks here are good guys and might help you out. Offer your time to help with any fence repairs, etc. That goes a long way. Long shot ... but you never know.

I appreciate the info. I called some family and think I found an “in”. Sounds pretty promising anyway.

What part of the state are you in? If you are in East Texas I would tell you to download an app like OnX to see where there is public land. Just because it is public land doesn't mean you can hunting it without restriction. Most of that east Texas stuff is thick and probably more effective to hunt coyotes with a shotgun than a rifle.

Public land options in Texas will not be with worth the trip from Missouri.

Pretty much going to be National forest which will be thick. Some state WMA allows for coyote but usually while on a drawn hunt for deer. A lot of WMA hunting aside from National Forest WMA is by draw only.

I’m in Missouri, just gonna travel out there for a few days to hunt. I’ve got Onx, use it all the time. I appreciate the info. The east Texas jungle is more my type anyway lol

I appreciate the info, thank you much. It sounded like I was going to have to regroup and go elsewhere. Just happen to call some family out that way and they were kind enough to help me out. I may have some private on the north side to go to. Still waiting to hear.

I agree, public land coyote options in Texas are not worth the drive from Missouri. If you could get on some good private land that would be different. Just remember that even though it may be shown as public on OnX, doesn't mean that you can hunt coyotes there without any restrictions.
Good luck, hope you have a great hunt.

I sure do appreciate the help. I always try and do my absolute best to make sure I’m doing things the right way. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind if I ever get into any public TX tracts.

I’m down here for work was going through the same thing the National forests in east Texas produced great results for me it’s thick but if you understand how to hunt it it’s some great hunting lots of coyotes at least lots compared to a couple other states I’ve hunted

Glad you’re having some success!

I think I just chalked up TX all together, and I’ll be headed back out to WY. Sure is a shame, was really hoping to cross TX off the bucket list. Cool country.
