The Art Of Making Your Own Coyote Call

I wasn't sure that I should share my "tricks of the trade" with everyone, but I hope some call makers will give it a try. It's a trial and error process to design, grind, and shape the metal jig for the calls.

The only time we truly fail in life or with such a project is when we do not try! I enjoy using a product that I have made myself and that I can share with others.

It is neat to make your own jigs. I could not afford to pay for a set of jigs so I used our machine shop at work. I was glad I didn't put it off. A month later no work no machine shop to use. Thanks also to Kerry Carver for sending me one of his jigs to look at. Here is a pic of them.

I bought several sections of the square metal pipe, then I cut and ground the pipe to the desired shape and angle for the tone board. As I mentioned in the prior WEB page link, I used angle and bench grinders to build the jigs. Yes it takes time and it's a trail and error process to build the jig for the tone board. You will have to cut out some tone boards using your jig and blow these tone boards w/reeds in place to see how they sound. You may have regrind or file down portions of your jig with repeated cuttings of the trial tone boards until you are satisfied with how your completed tone board sounds.

Perhaps you may have luck with your first jig attempt, but I continue to work with these jigs for the desired tone board.
