The coyote sounds on my foxpro

Just wanted to find out exactly when the coyote sounds should be used and what exactly they mean, male challenge scream, female bark howl and female long howl, any input would be great.

Mainly during these times - Mating - Denning - Puppies on the ground.

You can use Coyote vocalizations at anytime, I would suggest early morning/late afternoon - Lonesome howl of some type.

Other than that - Some type of Distress sounds.

Calling coyotes is not an exact science. It's more of a trial and error. I use the hurt pup or Kiyi on most sets unless I think there is a strong possibility for a Bobcat. I also use the Female lone howl on most coyote sets.If they are talking to you you can try the Challange howl. I don't use it much but that's just my style. I believe Rich Cronk has something pinned on the Eastern Forum about Coyote Vocalizations , very informative. Do a search if you can't find it. January / February is breeding season and the Coyote sounds will be even more benificial. Good Luck

I stay away from barking most of the time. If you have Foxpro's female yodel howl, use it. I know that the sound is friendly, and I have had coyotes approach the sound. I will go listen to their female long howl and be right back.
I'm back, and the Foxpro female long howl is fine all year around.

Howling is not the magic bullet. But he!! Just go play the crap outta howls and find out for yourself. Coyotes really work the wind when approaching strange howls. Most howling success stories you hear is in reality someone got lucky once and a coyote happened to come out.

I promise you this lightning jack has called more coyotes across the country more consistently than any two sounds combined. Especially vocals.

the problem with vocals are this. too long, too short, a pitch change during the howl, ect. ect. can mean different things to a coyote that you may never know you did. a dying rabbit is a dying rabbit no matter what pitch or length.

alot of good info. guys, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't using the sounds wrong and actually making them run the other way.

A lot of folks are howling too much. Keep it natural. Howl one or three times and then go silent.

If you have Male Coyote Challenge 4 sound play it so you know what it sounds like.

If you hear a male coyote challenge that sounds like Foxpro's Male Coyote Challenge 4 sound, challenge them back with that sound.

It really ticks them off when you challenge them back. If the coyote goes silent he may be on the way to you!

A few times I have had a coyote challenging at my Challenge 4 sound but it was a few miles away. So I moved about a mile to a mile and a half closer to the coyote and challeged the coyote again and the coyote came right in.

Almost exclusively coyote vocals here, with good success this fall( 136 sets /56 called in). Average arrival time is in that 22 minute range. Me and my buddy are pretty patient as we will sit for quite a while. Called one @ the 57 minute mark last Sat. , one @ 49 minute mark early this fall and a pair @ 42 minutes . I don't think there is a wrong call if you don't mix a bunch of different ones together, but give the coyote time to come in.
