The Coyote

I made this one for myself. It was made from an old horn that another P.M. member gave me awhile back. I plan to call some summer coyotes with this call and test the durability of the coyote painting. I have some more nice white horns in stock, and if everything goes well I will have some real eye catchers for those who like pretty howlers.

figures /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Don't blame you for one minute on keeping that one. Truely masterful work.

Oh well, back to turning plane old wood /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I like the howler, but to be honest, the applique turns me off. I'd much rather see something carved into the horn or hand-painted.
But, kudos to Mr. Cronk for thinking up and trying something new. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Now that's something I haven't seen before. Good idea!

JimT,
I just came up with the idea this morning, so I put a couple on my personal howler to see how well they hold up. I am always looking for a pattern for paint on decoration, or maybe a brass coyote head that I could attach with epoxy and screws. There will be more to come. Thanks for your honest opinion sir.

look's pretty cool Rich like the howler and picture. i sent slydog a bearcall howler with a bear picture on it. it's his go to howler. your picture reminded me of it. Rick

just how hard would it be to peel that sucker off if you didn't like where you put it or thought it just didn't look right? by the way sweet call! i think it looks fine with them on there. the brass coyote head is a terrific idea but maybe a little more of a pain to put on. for some reason it would make it look more OFFICIAL, and i haven't seen that on any other howlers. the second pic kind of looks like a bulldog. did they run out of coyote and send you a terrier?

smithers,
Put your glasses on sir. That is a female coyote looking you square in the face. I am the only bulldog around here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mr. Cronk that looks sweeetttt. I would bet it sounds gooood /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif. I have been showing your howler off here in oklahoma and everybody that see it wants to know where i got it and i have a hard time telling them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif, i just can't stand anybody having the upper hand on me ,, i useally give in and tellum i have to carrie your address and phone # around in my wallet ..Thanks for Showing,, J.D.

Now this idea I like! Lowes and Menards both sell brass sheet. Have you seen the howling coyote silhouette that they put on "Indian" stuff down in the southwest? Cut that shape out of thin brass, buff it to a high shine(actually probably better off buffing before) and epoxy it to the horn. Lacquer over it to keep the brass from oxidizing. That would be sharp!

JimT,
I think I am going to like you! I have some thin brass that an old print shop owner gave me about a hundred years ago. I may just give your idea a try. Thank you sir.

A quick Google image search yielded the following:

Seems like you could resize these as needed with your computer, then print them off and maybe use spray adhesive to attach them to brass. I look forward to seeing the result!
