So i was thinking this eavning about what i had handy around the house to try to put together an electonic caller. so i thought....and thought..... and thought some more and finally just as i was about to give up and jump in the shower it came to me. i have a dewalt 18v radio that has the jack to plug in an ipod. i someties use it for work so i dont have to listen to commercials on the radio all day long. so im goin to give it a shot and see if and how good it works. ill kep everyone posted on the outcome. im sure theres more than a few of you guys who have the radio i mean whats the worst that can happen right!!!

The worst that could happen is some Cougar comes in and steals your DeWalt radio. Those are pretty loud radios with great frequency response, keep us posted on what you call in with it.

welcome to the site Brownie! great idea, you could whack them with this...........

UPDATE ON THE DEWALT CALLER

I made a stand this afternoon and set the old dewalt radio about 30 yards out and to my left hit the play button and started the calling sequence on my ipod. about five minutes later a coyote came trotting up at about 300 yards. i put my crosshairs on him and took a shot. i misjudge the distance and hit just below it. i should have waited for it to come in a little closer but i wanted a challenging shot. looks like i need a little more practice or a range finder before i try that one again. but i am happy to say it worked. im goin to give it another try tommorow and hopefully have a picture to post on here of a yoter.... a dead one!!

Brownie, that's a classic! My new mantra is making do with what I have, and this fits the bill perfectly. Now we'll probably have someone flame this post starting a Makita v. Dewalt thread! Great job, next yote will be yours for sure.

I made an electronic caller by taking an old mp3 player and the speaker from my old Johnny Stewart 512 cassette caller, a 9.00 amplifier from Radio Shack. The new caller weighs about 8-10lbs less. I made my own mp3 files using the old cassette tapes. Works pretty good. I recently splurged on a foxpro because I wanted a remote control.

Varmint Al has a lot of info and free mp3 files.
