The Fur Is Getting Ready

I’m up on the hiline in northern Montana for a few days. Ended up with 5 today and all of them had primo fur for this early in the year. A triple on the second stand and two singles after that. It’s big country and the coyotes will stop way out there and look. Once they stop they almost never come any closer. The average shot distance today was 320 yards. Many days it’s longer than that.

Got this one on a quick stand after work today. Surprisingly still not even close to prime for this area.come mid November im hoping to get a whopping $10 for whole coyotes!

Is anyone even buying fur this year?

No, just domestic use. Russia and china are not.

Skunks are high demand, something to do with jewish hats. Coyotes will be worth about whatever they were last year. Midwestern coyotes still at no value.

What a shame. Reckon prices will ever come back?
I think prices will eventually come back. A buyer that I know told me that Russia was one of the top buyers. Apparently there are four tanneries in that part of the world. All four of them are in the Ukraine. There's not any fur moving between Russia and the Ukraine right now. It's quite possible that there will be some compensatory gain in prices from unfulfilled demand since the market has been virtually dead since Covid in 2020. Women like fur and will likely continue to buy when the market improves.
