The New Nikon Prostaff.

I just went and picked up a new Nikon Prostaff in a 3-9x40 with the BDC reticle. I really didn't want or need the BDC reticle but it was all the shop had. I must say I'm not terrible impressed with the new finger adjustable turets. They are re-zeroable but they lift with a spring tention and turn freely till they are back where you want them then they just drop back down on internal splines. They have a nice positive click. The turret covers are much larger and plastic

I can say the glass is ultra clear and crisp, which being a Nikon is exactly what one would expect. I really think I can tell that there is better light transmission also another bonus. I think they did make some serious improvements it actually comes with a real set of scope lens covers instead of that single string thing that used to come with the prostaff. I will have to reserve judgement on the BDC reticle. The durabilty of the turets and covers will also have to remain to be seen. But all and all I feel like they did make some key improvements!

I do wanna say that I am happy with this scope and am not trying to bash Nikon in any way. I was just hopeing that the Prostaff would be the old Buckmaster and the the Buckmaster would under go a redesign also.

Almost every rifle I own has a Nikon of some form on it and I'm sure this one will be just as rugged and dependable as the rest...

I just bought the Prostaff this weekend and sighted it in last night. I own 2 Redfield Revolutions and think the Prostaff turrets are much better than the Revolution. Nikon did their homework with this redo.

Thats good to know! I was going back and fourth between the two also and decided to go Nikon. They have been too good to me in the past. I really like Nikons optics they are really good quality...

Well I sighted it in tonight on my NFA upper and it work perfectly clicks are right on it was very easy to re-zero the turets. This thing is a keeper. I read about the BDC reticle and being that I'm running 70 grain pills at about 2900ish I put it 100 yard zero, about the BDC that will take some practice...

Where are you guys buying the new model from? The websites and online stores that I typically buy from still show the old model.

Some stores I've been in still have the old models at regular prices. Most stores have discounted the old models though to fairly good deals themselves. I saw Scheels had the 3x9x40 for $99 about 9 months ago. My local store still has some older ones at discount. That's when I learned they were coming out with a new one. I bought the new one from Scheels also for $159. The box labeling has been changed with different colors so if you can see the scopes in the store you can instantly know whether they're the new or old without having to find a sales person.

Noobie, I saw the rimfire version in the case at Cabelas last week but didn't look at it. I think it was $109 but don't quote me on that price.

The new ones are coming in clear plastic sealed packages. At least thats how I got my last two. I bought one from Midway and one from Walmart and they have both been in clear plastic wrappers. Looking at the style of turet cover makes it easy to tell the difference the new ones have much taller plastic caps and the old ones have flat aluminium caps.

Nikon has always answered my questions in a reasonable amount of time and taken care of any issues that I had, most of which I caused.

I won’t always buy Nikon (don’t always have what I want), but when I do, I feel confident that I’m getting a good product with good customer care.

Now for the Prostaff, I don't own the new version, but I own two others (one with BDC and without).

When comparing them (passed) at Night/day with the Monarch, I was hard pressed to tell the difference in glass.

The difference was how it tracked, the Monarch blew it away so I always spent $100.00 more for the Monarch (3-9X40).

If they improved the tracking and repeatability of the Prostaff, then it will be one of the best values for dollars well spent.

I just wish they offered more illuminated versions

I bought one of these last night too. I love the feel of it so far and the glass seems great. Defiantly an improvement over the old ones. Only thing is the plastic turret covers arent that great. The guy at Cabelas bore sited my rifle and I think he cross threaded the cap. its a pain to get on right now.

Well when I finally decide on what bolt gun, one of the new NBM scopes may go on top.

I have had a prostaff for the last 2-3 years or so. It has been on two 22-250s, a 30-06 for a short time, and now sits on my .243. I have been extremely pleased with the scope, especially for the money.

I was thinking about buying a buckmasters to put on my newest rifle but if you guys are saying the new prostaff is better than the older ones, I think that's what I'm gonna go with as I've been very happy with my old one
