The Night Hunter's Vehicle or Setup

OK... It's a totally different world here in the SE US when it comes to night or even daytime hunting.

I've lived in Colorado and have hunted South Dakota as well and coyote hunting there was fun and in comparison to here in NW Florida it was easy.

After a couple of years of trying to call coyotes in the daytime I decided it couldn't be that I was that poor of a caller so I bought my first NV scope. The Pulsar N750. It's a pretty nice NV scope for the money but it doesn't work very well on nights where there is little or no moon without the illuminator and my coyotes don't like that very well nor do they seem to like a bright moon at all... Sigh

So I sprung for the Flir PTS233 and VOILA it works great in any situation I've tried it in so far but now I get to the real crux of my question/problem.

The only 3 successful Florida Night Hunters I know all hunt from their Truck and/or UTV. I mean they're in the bed of their truck or sitting in their ATV calling and/or driving around looking for hogs or coyotes.

I have a Tacoma that I could use I guess and have a dog box I could mount some kind of swivelling shooting chair on although all but the extremely expensive swiveling shooting chairs tend to be noisy and flimsy with very little chance of rifle accuracy due to wobble.

Does anyone have any ideas before I just jump off the deep end and buy a $10,000 UTV and turn it into a mobile hunting blind for another couple thousand?

This dang coyote and hog hunting in the dark is even more expensive than my deer hunting. LOL

I wonder if the Caldwell Deadshot Chairpod would work on top of my dogbox?

Here's Caldwell's promo for it on youtube.

Here's a pretty good review. The guy's a geek but it's still a good review and at the end he actually shoots it in the field.

I know it wouldn't be rock steady but then it's cheap and easy to use and you could use your thermal scope for 360 degree scanning without your arms getting tired from hours of holding up a scoped rifle.

Ideas? Solutions?

Using the currency converter it appears that the price is $488 USD before shipping from the UK and they don't seem to have any of the Idleback Shooting Chairs in stock.

I'm surprised that they don't use Amazon or ebay to sell them.

If they're looking to penetrate the Predator Hunting Market in the US Amazon would virtually insure their success.

If you contact Trev Horner at Idleback, they can be bought. I bought 2 within the last 3 months. They are indeed about $500 each. Member G Bo may be able to help with an email address. The key is you must talk to Trev Horner direct. Anyone else is a waste of time. I almost gave up, but with G Bo's help got it done.

The Ultimate Predator Vehicle "Predatorize Your Ride"!

Tom... OK... Now you've done it and you'll be getting hate mail from my girlfriend for a long time... LOL

I'm already plotting and scheming on how to build my Tacoma into a predator hunting rig similar to yours... Will it cost me more than a hundred clams?

Academy and other retailers sell a lid for a 5 gallon bucket lid that is a padded swivel for about $11. I can carry my call and other stuff.

I think my first investment is something I've been putting off for a long time. A helmet and PVS-14. Time to raid the piggy bank soon...

Kind of off topic, but when you called during the day, were you trying to get them out into the open, or calling in the thick of it with a shotgun?

Good to see someone coming from out west to the east to experience our frustrations.

I hunt central and north FL from my truck. It's great. You are slightly elevated and get a better view. With additional camo net I can cover the entire cab in seconds.

Hunt a while, roll up the net, move, repeat.

I sourced an old truck rack, cut and welded to fit my needs, and added a surplus MG3 ring mount. Makes for a rock solid 360-degree shooting platform.

I'd never heard of the MG3 Ring mount until now...

This would be AWESOME for hogs or fishing (see video) LOL

I also read that these ring mounts weigh over 300 pounds... Might not be what I want on the top of my Tacoma but a very interesting idea...
