I finally got to go out saturday and sunday morning and got to use my stevens .223 for the first time. I shot one in my inlaws field between stands mousing at 140-150 yards bang flop. Made 3 stands and nothing else. Sunday morning left the house and saw one mousing in the field, bang-dead-no flop. I made it to my first stand and saw a coyote on the neighbors ground around the cattle about a 1/4 mile away so I set up the foxpro and jib and turned the call on, almost instantly he came in down wind busted me and I missed a quartering away shot about 110 yards! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I made 3 more stands with no success and called it a day. It has been very foggy the last to morning and the coyotes have been moving it seems until the fog lifts, I saw a handful out in the open driving between stands on place I didnt have permission on.
I am using the 55 grain ultramax ballistic tips, very impressed in the performance. The first coyote was broadside, shot her behind the shoulder, couldnt see the entrance or the exit until the guy skinned her, minimal damage. The second coyote was a also a female, broadside, no visible damage on either side, waiting to see the carcass to see the result.
All and all very pleased with my setup- stevens .223, nikon 3-9x50 prostaff, and the ultramax 55 grain ballistic tips.
