Well, the hogs have returned to my property and rooted my yard up 2 nights last week. I had seen a little sign and was keeping an eye out, making nightly looks around the yard/ property but was not seeing them. Then the night I decided not to get up in the night they rooted the place up.

So Thursday night I made a walk over to the neighbors property (500+ acres adjacent to mine). He has a couple of food plots on the far west side of his property from me, and one had 2 hogs rooting around. I made a short stalk and got the first one.

Ended up being about a 125 pound boar.

Moved drove back toward my house to a 5 acre food plot that is about 400 yards southwest so my house. There was a small little herd there, but I the walk in I heard something running up on me, and it turned out to be the neighbors dog. I couldn’t run him off and he followed me in and I was afraid he was going to spook them before I could get a shot. The grass was high so could really only see their heads and top of their back. I shoot the one closest to me and on the left and it was a hit. They scope nuked (froze) just after the shot, and they were running when I got a site picture back. I ended up getting to more on the run. The durn dog was running round with them and lucky I didn’t make a mistake when he ran up and started checking on the squealer.

I found the second and third (Both small sows) but never found the first one that I thought has dropped.

I drove back to the house, looked around and went in the house. About an hour later I went back out to look around and a whole herd was in my front yard. I have limited fields of fire because or neighboring houses, so I only got off one shot, because I was afraid to shoot after they started running. The hog I shot ran, but I knew he was hit good. The next morning I found him about 40 yards away and had to get my zero turn mower or drag him out to when I get get the truck to load him up to haul off. This one was about 150 pound boar.

In just the short time they were there, they did a lot of rooting.

So they made 5 hogs for sure shot, one not recovered.

Friday night I made the same rounds, but no hogs seen and Saturday I put a drag behind my zero turn to try and level out some of the rooting.

Saturday night I walked to the 5 acre plot that it about 400 yards from the house and as soon as I got there I could hear some grunting. I got the gun on the sticks and turned in the scope, there was a single boar 30 yards away and shot him quick without hitting record.

I went back to the house and drove to the west side of fhe neighbors property and checked both plots. The first one has a small group of hogs, and they caught my wind as I was getting on the Sticks. The first shot was a misfire ( been having a problem with head spacing on some reloads I think) by the time I got another round racked they were running. I managed to hit one crossing from right to left and then proceeded to miss several more as he keep running. Another not recovered, but surely dead.

Not very good shooting to be sure.

So, 2 night 7 for sure hits, 5 recovered. Buzzards been eating good this week.

One of my neighbors a half mile down the road caught 12 in a trap on his property this past week. 3 sows and the rest small pigs. Could be the group I shot the boar out of that was in my yard. I hope it was. I have not seen them again. But, i will be keeping an eye out.
