Thompson Center Icon?

Hi,
Anyone here own or shot a Thompson Center Icon? I've been thinking about getting one but the only reviews that I have been able to find are by outdoor writers, I don't know whether they are sponsored by TC or not, so I'm not too sure about their reviews. TC has a $150.00 rebate in effect until sometime in November, so if I'm going to buy one it has to be soon.
Thanks, Mike

they look to be great firearms, but to me, seem a little heavy. Not much in the caliber selection either. Yes there is a $150 rebate, and if you buy a Nikon scope AT THE SAME TIME, there's another rebate on top of that. We've sold a few at our shop, but they haven't been real popular. Probably because of the price, but the rebate makes them more competitive with other manufacturers.

I think Guess uses a TC Icon. Maybe he'll chime in. If not, send him a PM.

I have one in .243. I love the gun. I've been trying to talk myself into packing it coyote hunting this year, but I think I'm just too attached to my little, light CZ .204, many dogs have succumbed to that little shooter. Anyway, the Icon Shoots great, usually one ragged hole with handloads. One of the best factory triggers I've had the pleasure of pushing. The rifle might be a little bit heavier than it needs to be, but i't not a hinderance of any kind, in fact, I'd almost like to see a little heavier profile on the barrel. Heck, the bolt is made out of a hunk of bar stock nearly the size of your wrist. It's a very pretty gun with nice wood, and progressive styling, the only detractor cosmetically is the unfortunate trigger guard. That thing is ugly, compared to the rest of the weapon. The machined in scope bases are something every modern rifle should be made with.

It all depends on how much you like to collect guns, there are several in the safe that were many times the cost of the Icon. I happen to have bought this one second hand(I won't say used, because it wasn't at all) for a little over half of retail. After shooting it for awhile, I would easily buy another one at a gun shop for the typical cost plus 10.

i agree with bownut re: heaviness...bulkiness,if ya will...the early ones had gorgeous wood but now i'm seeing not so spectacular wood...don't know anyone who has shot one.
