Thursday early evening coyote

Got to the farm at 5:30 pm, made the 450 yard walk in, and was set up by 5:50. Figured I had a solid 30–35 minutes of light to work with.
With the wind blowing hard, I started with a dying rabbit distress and cranked it to full volume almost right away so it could cut through the wind. I kept playing with the same sound, raising and lowering the volume, trying to mix it up.
Then after about 10 minutes, I caught movement on this coyote as it crest the hill.
She sat there for about 30 seconds, just watching. I lowered the volume but she went into the standing corn. About half a minute later she stepped back out and just stood there.
I had a feeling she wasn’t coming any closer. probably didn’t like the fact I was sitting out in the open cut corn with nothing but camo for cover. So I settled in, got on her, and squeezed the trigger.
As soon as the shot broke… she moved.
I was convinced I missed. Didn’t hear that solid “thump” sound you often hear.
I went right back to the dying rabbit for a few more minutes, then switched to pup distress for about five minutes in case there was a second one hanging back but nothing showed.
Figured I’d better take a walk and confirm the miss.
Got to the top of the hill, no coyote, no blood at first. Then I spotted a few drops… and from there it turned into a steady trail. Easy tracking.
She made it about 50 yards into the standing corn. Not the best pictures as I forgot to bring my camera holder
