Tightest No. 4 Buckshot Choke

Heres the deal. I was at gander yesterday and for some reason they had marked the 40 truglo ssx chokes with the fiber optic sights down to 10 bucks. I am not a turkey hunter but figure for 10 bucks it would a good thing to add a turkey choke to the arsenal. I figure the .643 is to tight for anything but turkey or birdshot but a friend of mine says .645 or close with 3 1/2 no. 4 he told be just dont go any larger than no 4

I do not want to ruin my gun or hurt my self. The box only says no steel so would no. 4 buckshot be ok.

Thanks in advance for the info

I wouldn't ... Make sure you and your friend are on the same page, #4 turkey shot is far different than No. Four Buck. Different guns have different size bores and .645" means different things to different guns. Even from the old standard American bore of .729" that's .084" of constriction. That's a bunch of choke. That's the type choke the card target shooters use with a standard 2.75" load of #7.5 or smaller shot. Nothing good is going to come of cramming a 3.5" magnum load of large shot through that much constriction. If you have an over size bore like most are today that would be even a worse situation. An extreme example would be the hugely overbore Mossberg guns with the .775" 10 gauge bore. That combination would be .130" constriction!!!

Thanks for the info so far. Matter of fact mine is a 500 his is a versamax. It is 40 plus no 4 buckshot he is shooting. Being in the machining world like i am i immediatly seen when i got home and measured my xfull at like .685 that this was alot tighter. Thats what lead me to ask for advice. all i have ever used my shotgun much for is bird hunting.

I got the ball rolling but that thread grew legs and has a lot of very good information from other posters in there as well.
