Tikka 25-06 Pet Load..

I know this is a long shot, but I'm hoping to find pet loads for others with a T3 25-06. I realize that every T3 will shoot different, I am just trying to find a starting point.

Currently, I am shooting 52.5 grains of IMR 4350, 100 grain Sierra GameKings, Winchester primers with a COL 0f 3.115. This load is not doing so hot for me (1.5-2" groups).

Like I said, I just want a starting point.

Thanks in advance.

That's my next powder to try. Somewhere around 53 grains...

Anyone else have any ideas??

IMO you don't gain a whole lot by switching powders, if it where me I would give up on that particular bullet, your gun don't like it! what I do is try different loads with different bullets and see where that takes me, then I start monkeying with the powder charges, fortunately my tikka doesn't seem to care, feed it with whatever and still get MOA.

ROST-SD..you say your shooting..52.5 of imr 4350..where did you start ?? were lower charge's shooting worse ?? you also mention somewhere around 53 grain's of imr 4831..would that be your starting point ?? i guess i'm not sure why you would say that ?? there are reason's i ask..i'm still pretty new to reloading..i have only reloaded for six or seven rifle's..i often find a mid range load provide's good accuracy for me..i have reloaded for two 25/06's..both shot a 100 grain sierra prohunter & around 51.0-52.0 of imr 4831 very well..i started below that..i didn't feel any need to push any further as these load's provided very acceptable hunting accuracy..if you don't have a o.a.l. guage i would say get one..some bullet's in my opinion shoot well close to the land's..other's further back..just my thought's..

all you guys who deer hunt with 25's must try the nosler 110 accubonds, if theres a better deer bullet I haven't found it yet an unlucky test medium!

was really windy today so I had to forego the long range deer hunting decided to test the 110 accubonds I loaded awhile back, never saw so much blood and never saw a deer shot that far back only make 25 yds.
BTW thats my dtech AR in 25 wssm

Over the years, I've loaded for a pile of 25-06's.
At one time owning 5 of them. Currently, I own 2, and both perform well with Sierra Pro Hunter flat base 100 grain, pushed with Max loads of IMR-4350. I am in no way telling you to start at max. Back off about 10% of max, and work your way up. Also as stated, an OAL guage is very valuable. I have found that 10-15 thousands off the lands, seems to be the sweet spot. Also check the twist rate. I have run across guns with a 1 in 9-1/2, which shoot the 110-120's but shoot lighter bullets poorly. In fact, I found an Encore barrel, that everyone swore was 1-10", and it was a 1-9-1/2. Shot 120's into about 3/8" I have had best luck with IMR-4350, in the 51-53 gr range(a little warm), but also good luck with IMR-4831, H4831, and also Reloader 22. I also found out one of my rifles loves the 85 grain combined technology bullet. good luck in your quest, hope this helps.

Thanks Ackleyman,
I had made a typo in the origingal post. I was looking at notes , and looked at my load for my 30-06 spring on the number of grains used. I also use IMR-4350 for that rifle. I usually do not write the number of grains, unless specifically ask for just for this reason. All reloading books, give good starting points. I'm sorry and apologize for the error. I should have read the post after replying. Sorry again, Butcher

Well
since I've owned a 25-06 for about 30 years and
since someone mentioned IMR-4831 and someone else mentioned H-4831, I'll get on my soapbox---and say again

DO NOT MIX UP THESE TWO POWDERS They are different, though now a days they are sold by the same folk. The IMR is hotter, and you'll pop primers out the back of the case or worse, if you use the wrong load data. Some older reloading books do not show these as separate powders.

HOWEVER, H-4831 and H-4831sc are the same powder and while I wouldn't mix them, at least the load is the same. I use H-4831sc

I have a Tikka T3 lite Stainless and settled on 52 grains of ADI 2209 with Nosler 85gn BT and Sierra 90gn BlitzKing projectiles these clover leaf groups at 100m oal set at 3147 ,3 thou of the lands,This load was worked up to from 49grains and proved to be the best out of my rifle.

Sierra pro hunter 117g IMR4320 40g c.o.a.l 3.13 fps 2650 range. Dime size groups from my Winchester and my brothers Winchester. I hated this gun till I worked up this load, now shoots real nice. Thought I had a bad gun. Very glad I did not get rid of it. I know it is not a Tikka another note my gun does not like boat tail bullets, don't know why.

I suspect the problem is not the load. I've spent 37 years loading and shooting a .25-06. IMR4350 was always one of the best powders along with that 100 gr Sierra. I statyed with IMR4350 for 30 years and just started using RL17 and RL19 a few years ago. You also can't beat 4831, either IMR or Hodgdon.

One tip I will give you if you can't get acceptable accuracy is switch primers. I found my gun likes Winchester and Federal. Primers can make a big difference.

Another tip, the best accuracy with this round usually comes at or very close to the max charge.
