doesnt anyone own one? how does it shoot and hows teh fit and finish? is the stock as cheap fealing as most other syenthtics? im looking at one in 308. for target punching deer hunting and possibly pest control. what are your thoughts on them

I've got a T3 lite in 243.

I shoot 4 shot groups, and it's shot 4 single hole groups (different days) to date.

I'd say they're pretty well built.

IMO the 2x price tag on the "tactical" models are not worth it...I like the scope rail and the heavy contour barrel, but the action is nowhere close to the regular T3 or Whitetail Hunter rifles. The stock is a little better than the T3 stocks, but once again IMO it is not worth the added cost. The tactical version is a bit on the heavy side, so it will be a lot to carry in the field all day for deer hunting. I am sure the tactical will be an excellent shooter.

I would suggest buying the T3 because of weight and the smooth action. I have the T3 in a .270 and it is producing 1/2 groups with Hornady 130 gr SST ammo. I have exactly 60 rds fired through the rifle, so I am still in the break in period. I cannot say enough good things about Tikka rifles. For years, I was a Savage fan, but the action on the Savage made me switch to the Tikka. The only negative comment about the Tikka is the cheap plastic magazines. While the plastic magazine functions, I just cannot get over the fact that Tikka wants $65 per mag. I want an extra mag, but for now I am not willing to spend $65 on plastic.

Gary, My brother has a T3 lite 308 Varmit/target model in his store. I am not sure how the Tactile compares???but you could at least findle one that is close!!!
His store is in Oly and his phone 360.943.4867
Carl
He has lots of Tikkas.

Thanks Carl

Since they both share the same 8" twist and heavy barrel I really doubt one would shoot better than the other. The only difference I can see is the picitinny rail and adjustable stock on the Tac model. Both are available with set triggers and from everything I have read about the varminter, it's a real shooter.

I may just have to give him a call. Oh wait you said 308....I'm more interested in a 223 right now. I already have 4 308s /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

No problem Goper slayer!

Good idea Gary, I have thinking of selling my Tikka 22-250, and buying a target Tikka 223. I have a 223 standard T-3 lite. I love, It is "just one of those guns" ya-know. I am one of those guys that everytime I shoot my 250 I have visions of some metal going with bullet.
I went out with a friend a while ago, he has these borowing little critters in one pasture. We got to blazing away at the little buggers. I fired 8 rounds in about 3-5 minutes. I was mad for a day over letting my self burn the barrel in real good, it was Hot! 223 I"ll get more life out of, I cant see futher than a 223 will shoot anyway.LOL
For extreme range I can always use my 243.
Tom, my brother says he can get them, few days out.

I may go in and see ole Tom, soon.

Did you hear on "our" hunting lodge yet?? LOLLOL

I have 2!

I have them in .223 sand absolutely love them!
I took Beretta out on a predator hunt and they had them out there. 1 of the NRA editors shot a coyote at 9 ft and 1 ant 540 yds. He said the barrel on that gun was something else. He is the tech guy I guess and loved it. I love the feel, weight, swing, everything about them.

I love the shorter barrel, and the stock is great. It is not the cheap kind like the others. THe cheek peice adjusts and teh forend is wonderful.

I got the Tikka T3 super varmint this year in 22-240 and it has the same stock as the tactical. I prefer the tactical because it weighs less.

Here is 1 of mine;

Bigc

What bullets or loads have you found that work well in the 223? The website states the 223 comes in an 8" twist is that the same as your's?

When you say the Tacical weighs less than the varminter, how much less? I saw on the website they weigh 8lbs. maybe that was just an approx. number for each.

And last, what is the barrel length on the 223?

Thanks for allowing me to be nosey /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

im guess its a 20" barrel.

thanks Bigc ya i jsut love tehy way the look and there gurnetee is alwaysa a nice thing. I would like it in 308, though wouldnt be able to buy one from you anyways because i live in canada and its apin in the [beeep] to bring them over.

The Tactile has a 20 inch barrel, weighes in at over 10 lbs.
the varmit/Target weighs under 8 lbs. with 23.5 inch barrel.
There are some other differences.
I bought a 308 Tikka, T-3, lite, today, 3X9 leupy. I almost
bought the Target model.
the next rifle will be the Varmit, in 223.

Mine honestly weighs 8.7 lbs with the scope and sling. That is the truth. The Super varminter wieghs 10.4 lbs witht the same scope (Burris 6x24x44).

The T3 varminter (not super) weighs roughly the same as the super, just a hair less.

I shot all 3 of these for a week straight just 2 weeks ago.
I have 2 of the 3 rifles, 2 of 1 of them. They are great!

I got a print out from Beretta just now. A different site showed me 10.4 lbs. this print shows 7 1/4. Looking at them today I was trying to figure out where the weight was, found it, it was in the bad input.
Varmits with 23 3/8 barrel shows as 6 lb.10 oz.
My four tikkas. with nearly all the same 3X9 Leupy scopes, weigh between 7.5 and 7.75. loaded, sling. one is a Magnum, one has a Leupy 4.5X14. I dont trust my memory so I could be a little off, this was on an old grocery scale.
sure fine rifles.

A friend of mine got one recently just like BigC's.. we all love it.. he is shooting 80gr sierra match kings at 2850fps and it is grouping very well at 100/300/and 500yds...that is the only bullet he has shot in it but i suspect as good as it shoots the 80's it would shoot others well... I am guessing if you can afford the tikka tactical buy it and you probably wont be sorry.....
