Timney Trigger for M700

Ok, it got to me. Not just the media but the superior Timney Trigger. I am going to replace both triggers on my 700s with the Timney 510. Can I do this myself or should I take them to a Smith? I can and have broke down many weapons in the past for cleaning and minor repairs. It seems like a pretty easy task. Please let me know what yall have done. Thanks.

You can do it yourself it's bretty basic. Like 2muchgun said not gonna be an amazing change from a tuned old model 700 trigger. I'm not a big fan to the X mark pro triggers and have changed to Timney on a couple of those.

It is very easy, just have to tap out two pins and the trigger group falls out. The first time I did one I had another one of my 700's out of the stock so I could use it as a reference to put the trigger back in. Just have to make sure you get the spring for the bolt release back in properly.

Anyway, it is very easy to do........

Agreed
Truth is, a Timney's just as prone to slam fire as the Remmy when improperly adjusted.

If you have older 700 triggers, I'd keep what you have and spend the time learning how to properly adjust, and more importantly, clean em.

As far as MSNBC"s BS goes,,, I seldom take advice about my guns from the anti-gun crowd, but you do as you please.

Both my 700s are new within the past few years. I have fired.....at least 3-4 hundred rounds through each rifle. Never had an issue. Both trggers have no creep and break clean. Well, maybe I wont rush out and buy the Timneys after all. Thanks for the help.

+1, which is better. What about on the SPS line, is that trigger GTG with a trigger job, or better to replace?

What I'm trying to say is, yes, I'd replace an X-mark. I used old school 700 triggers in my last 2. They work grrrrreeeeat. Or you can buy a Timney or Rifle Basix, Shilen, whatever, but they aren't any better, just cost more.....

SPS has X-mark in it. Yes, I'd put it up for sale. In the meantime, I'd buy an old style that someone else had up for sale.........

xmark, xmark pro... doesn't matter.

Xmarks of all varieties suck. They "wear" in over time. As someone that puts a lot of rounds on things, you continually have to readjust the trigger as it will walk around on you.

Buy a timney and be done with it.

I don't have any experience with the new X-Mart trigger, but I have adjusted all my old 700 triggers. Most can be adjusted to a really decent pull, given the proper adjustment.
