I have an old skinny barrel A1 style AR and I noticed the same thing. Someone gave me a pretty cheap 3 power scope that mounts on the carry handle and I noticed shifting groups. For a cheap scope it is not that bad and easy to mount. I think I am going to bed the scope mount with epoxy with the thought of filling in around the screw to take up the slack of the hole in the carry handle. Mine has a spring loaded nut on the mount that I don't think it tightens up enough to take out all movement during recoil. I've been going to do this for awhile but been playing more and more with my new Plum Crazy lower with flat top upper. I'll try to get some ammo loaded up and to the range this weekend. If you try this use a release agent, I use black shoe polish, or your scope mount will be permanent.
