To dip or not to dip......?

Ok, so I have ordered my first AR from Dtech and can't decide on what to do... I don't know whether to have it dipped or leave it black. I will use it mostly predator/hog hunting in South Texas, and at the range. I REALLY like the look of the R-15, and I like the looks of the black as well. It will really be a hunting/calling rifle and i just can't decide whether to stay with the traditional black rifle or mix it up a little and get it dipped. Im leaning toward getting it dipped. I need to do this at the time of the purchase because it needs to be sort of one transaction so my wife doesn't think I am constantly spending money on guns. I would like your opinions.... I know that i can get it black and if I want it camo'd I can do it later, but it won't happen that way. Please help me make up my mind. Thanks

Well if you want it dipped and you will not be able to later do it now. I did not get my first AR dipped cause I love the look of the black rifles the way they are, but the max 1 camo on the R15 looks REAL good and have considered getting mine dipped when I get the new upper.

I decided to leave mine all black, as I plan on buying different uppers in the future and don't think a black upper would look good on camo lower, matching camo problems later on, seasonal changes(snow), etc...
I decided there are non-permanent options that should fill the bill well enough to hide the gun from an animal.

Camo dipped guns looks Sweet though, my duck gun is factory camoed and my wife gets jealous the way I stare at it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a .17 Rem AR that Dtech built for me, dipped in Max 4 camo pattern that is just absolutely gorgeous! However, talk to Mike before you make this decision. Mike is having major problems with the firm that does his camo dipping. In fact, I have been waitng for over 1 year for my second Dtech rifle, a .20 Tactical, simply because his dipper can't provide services.

I like what tc223 says, buy it black and make your own camo covers. That's what I've done. I have clothe gun covers for my coyote rifle in desert camo, army digital green and one in white for winter. I just like the looks for the "Black Rifle". Also, I don't think the camo will help your success as much as watching the wind and your movements. My 2¢
You will have to show us some pictures if you do get it dipped /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I have to agree that it looks really good.

jdp3,

If Mike is building your rifle, he can do a camo Norrel's Molyresin job on it. Ask me how I know!

Norrel's is an EXCELLENT protective coating. I wipe my rigs off with a wet paper towel & then dry them same. Dirt, blood, whatever, just wipes clean off. No rust, no wear...
