trap bait placement

Think of it as trap placement from the bait or atractant not the other way around. On a dirthole set for coyotes I like 10" to 12" back and offset to the right or left about 4". A flatset I move it up slightly and offset a little less.

On canines be real suttle with things like guide twigs or or pebbles.

This is real general and you will find in time what distance works the best for your style of sets. Some have more luck with a tighter set some with a more open

The hole in which the bait is in is about 10" from the pan of my #3 trap. It is about the size of the length of my thumb to my little finger end. The trap is out that far and back that far for a flat set, or territorial set.T.20

Place the trap between the bait/lure/attractant and the trail the coyote will approach from. 10" is a good avg. distance. When using bait, be mindful of birds. They will find it first.

Very good tip right there, I havent trapped in a few yrs but on a fox set I alway used a piece of straw laid a few inches in front of the trap. That what was handed down to me by the best trapper I've ever know. He's in my avatar photo with a big ole beaver that was bigger than me.
