Trap Size for Coyotes?

I have been using Duke #3 coil spring traps. Using them mainly for Coyotes. Just started trapping a couple years ago. Anyways, are those the best size to be using for coyotes? If not what would be better?
Thanks

A size 3 is a great coyote trap, myself I'm not a duke guy. If I where new into trapping I would look at equipment that will last a longtime as you save money down the road this way as trap prices keep increasing. Give me 6 of a good quailty trap for every dozen of inferior equipment and over time I will catch more and save more money! If your land trapping only I would use offset jawed traps they are perfect for coyotes and hold less than ideal catches better IMO.

What is a good quality trap brand? I am pretty new to trapping and was under the impression that Duke was a fairly good brand.
Thanks

Duke is an economical trap in that it is the least expensive trap you can buy (to my knowledge). I myself favor Bridger, they are not as expensive as sleepy creeks but are a stout trap for the money. (I also modify mine)

Yep bridger modified up traps are great for coyotes. You can spend more like sterling mj600's are awsome but will set you back 32.00 ea. With the coyote market where it is at I would go with modified bridger #3's a good place to get them is Minn trap prod.

what exactly do ya'll do to modify them?
I dye and wax all my traps. Plus I file down all the pins that hold the platform. What else do you do?
Once again I am fairly new to trapping and don't know anyone who does it, so any information helps me.
Thanks guys.

+1 on offset jaws and minnesota trapline products. whenever we modified our traps it was jaw add-ons and baseplates. Made the traps heavier and much more sturdy. they were welded on, I dont have any experience with the riveted stuff, probably would work just as good though. Be sure to check your regs for the maximum jaw width you can use. We were limited in NY so we put the jaw add-ons on the inside of the jaws instead of the outside, made the trap legal. neat little trick.

I take the #3 Bridger and four coil it, then I weld on a baseplate with a center swivel and then weld on jaw laminations. Like ADCcoyote and FishinHank said Minnesota Trapline Products is a great place to get Bridgers traps,(and anything else you need), you can also buy all the parts to modify them or I am pretty sure you can buy them modified already. I also take the steps you are already doing daisy2007.

Check out Montgomeryfur.com for the Bridger traps. The #3 square jaw offset is $8 per half dozen cheaper the Minnesota Trapline.

If your going to buy them modified from a supplier I like the job MInn trap pod does better than Montgomery fur just personnel preferance I guess.

i use victor softcatch( b/c its state law) 1 and 1/2 with number 2 music wire on it ....... i use them for coon, yotes, fox, and cats i think they hold better then the number 3
