trap size for fox

Neither one really,
The #3 coil will bust his leg and the #1 long spring is a bit small.

I'd say a 1 1/2 double coil. You have the strength to hold him without busting his leg and double coils are easier to conceal then a single spring.

But i'm not a trapper longbeard there will be plenty along to correct me if I'm wrong /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

By the way, welcome to Predator Masters.

I agree with River Runner. #3's are definately too big. I have even had problems with #2's breaking the front legs of red fox. If you break the leg, there is a good chance of the animal getting away. The #2 Victors I use are double long springs. They work really well for coon and bobcat and would probably work for coyote's. I think you have been given good advice on the 1 1/2 coils as they will be easier to bed using dirt hole or flat sets, but 1 1/2 double long springs would work too.

Probably not. Go with the Victor #2 round jawed double long spring. Run you traps before daylight to reduce pull outs and tear outs. I always to this anyway since I don't think you should leave an animal in a trap all day. Most catches will occur at night anyway. Plus, it adds to the excitement when you start getting close to the trap site and you can't see a thing until you get right up on it.

Longbeard,
A #1 long is definitely not a good fox trap. The # 3 coild could be used if it is laminated , otherwise a bit hard on fox as previously mentioned. If I were you I would use a 1.75 size trap minimum with the coyotes in mind. Yotes will be readily coaught at fox sets and fox at yote sets as well. this is a good all around trap for both critters and can be modified some with laminations and baseplates and such to strenghten them for yotes.
