Trapping pigeons? Howto?

How does one go about deploying pigeon traps? I'm looking at this style:

and have wondered if others have had success with such style trap.

Also, how does one operate such a trap? Throw some bird seed in it and put it somewhere on the ground? In the open or next to a bush? Or does it need to be on a rooftop, or tucked into a elevated nook?

Thanks!

Yes, I've had much success with that style trap. I've found that pigeons like it in the open, like on a rooftop, but somewhere where prying eyes don't find it. Be a shame to have your trap stolen and some do-gooder releasing the winged rats. We have some highway overpasses that were just chock full of the cooing vermin, and we trained many a gun dog with the best retrieval dummies money can't buy. I usually placed a shallow dish of seed in the middle, with some scattered nearby to promote interest. The thing works like a charm.

Thanks Karl!

Since my roof-top is sloped tile it'd be hard to put it up there without it crashing down. Perhaps I can build an elevated stand to put it on in the back yard.

I think I'll be picking one of these up after the holidays.

This type of trap works best when you put a pigeon in it to attract others. Place the trap at a location where pigeons frequently land. Put feed in and around the trap.
