Trax topo maps oe equivalent

I have a couple of the Kirsh trax topo maps that don't work anymore when I install them into my Garmin GPS. Does anyone make something like this anymore? I would like to be able to distinguish state trust, private, and BLM when I go scouting out west like AZ.

I was turned on to Onx by another hunter on here, works great. It can be used on a phone, iPad or computer. Good Luck.

Yeah, Korey quit making and supporting his Trax series. I snuck in a last update before he stopped and I still use it all the time. Love it. The main game in town now is OnX Hunt. I just started using that application as well as the Trax because I got a subscription as part of a donation to the RMEF. I have only played with it on my PC, but it is very powerful and seems to have a lot of functionality. My only complaint so far is that the colors showing land ownership are more subdued than Trax, making it a bit harder to see. I have a feeling this will be an issue in the field - it's difficult to differentiate between the no-color of private land and the light blue of state land.

I am also a Trax fan ànd have both the NM and western version on my truck gps and my MC gps. I am using Onx on my PC but don't understand how to load it on my GPS.. I know guys have it on there phone but I'm not very phone litterate. Heck I couldn't even get a candybar out of a vending machine that only took cards last night.

What I love me about Onx using the satalite view you can actually see if a road is still there. A lot of roads shown on BLM and Trax mapping have been abandoned a long time ago and either no longer have access or grown completely over

Guys, thanks for supporting the TRAX business over the years and for the kind words.

The steady decline in the GPS market led me to do a pilot of smartphone GPS TRAX mapping back around 2017 for Android phones. The phone maps were around .1% of our business and resulted in more support time and used more resources than all the GPS TRAX maps. I quickly realized my company would have to become an app development company more than a GPS hunting map company. The investment and my lack of desire to run an app company made me decide to hang with GPS mapping as long as it made sense for my business. Late in 2018/early 2019 the financial writing was on the wall, and I couldn't justify keeping the business open. I sent messages to all the email addresses we had on file, posted a notice on FaceBook as well as on the front page of our website saying I would keep the business open until 12/31/2020 to get as many people to the latest versions, and give people time to move if they wanted to.

I swallowed a lot of pride and struck a deal with onXmaps (as they were TRAX Maps main competition) allowing people to move to their GPS/app option at a major reduced rate. I ran the business at a loss during this entire transition time to attempt to help out as many customers as possible.

Then enters COVID on top of all this, and the decision was the right decision for my family and I. Since closing Kirsch's Outdoor Products, I have taken on a more involved role with Night Goggles.

One thing I almost forgot to mention is Garmin has changed how maps are authenticated. You can continue to use your TRAX maps in older style Garmins, but if you purchase a new Garmin handheld, it most likely will not run the TRAX maps. This was yet another factor in the decision to stop producing maps.

Sorry for the long story but I just wanted to provide some additional information for the PM members as many of you are like my family. The only other GPS solution I am aware of is onXmaps. Their smartphone solution is more powerful and user friendly than their GPS product. To help my customers as much as possible, I also began using the onX phone solution so I could speak more intelligently to customers about it. The combination of using it on a PC along with Goggle Earth is very powerful, and then I use it on my phone to execute my hunting plan. Are there things I miss from TRAX, sure there is, but onX is a very useable solution as well.

I'm bummed I never knew about Trax throwing the towel til it was too late for the last update.

Luckily it still shows on my handheld and truck Garmins......for now.

I've been using OnX with my GPS for about 10 years but in the last couple years I almost exclusively use OnX on my phone. Rarely even turn my GPS on anymore. There are a few tricks to using it on your phone but it is easy to learn and very convenient. As long as you know your login ID and password, I can help you set it up on your phone.
