Trijicon Acog

Yote Country

Has anyone used an acog to coyote hunt before. I was looking into one and noticed that the magnifier on it went out to 600 meters and that plenty far enough for me to touch a yote. I like how much light they bring in compared to all of the other high end scopes. one article that i read online said that the acog brings in 98% of the light through its first lens and out the other where as a mark 4 only does 88%. this low light will greatly increase my dawn and dusk hunts. If you have any advice at all i would more than love to hear it...

I think he means the reticle has graduations for .224 bullets out to 600 meters. I have a TA31F with the chevron reticle on my AR15 & love it. I've not shot any yotes, but plenty of fox, & a few coons. 4x magnification is plenty for me out to a few hundred yards. I like that there is NO battery to die. They are compact & built like a tank. The eye relief is short on the 4x models & if I rememebr correctly, the 3.5x model has longer relief. It is no big deal for light recoiling AR15 rifles, but some don't like the shorter eye relief.

The ACOG is a good site for quick shots in lighted conditions. It does not really gather a lot of light as compared to a nice quality built large objective variable. It is definately effective out to longer ranges than you would use for coyote...they get kinda small at 4x when 600 yards away. All that aside, the ACOG has two problems that knock it out for me and probably for most hunters as well. Besides the price tag, the scope just simply has very short eye relief. That is why you see the soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan footage doing an entry with the rifle held sideways, the buttstock on top their shoulder and the scope up against their face. Problem number two is the lit reticle. It is too bright for really low light conditions and knocks your vision out. You can help it a little by putting black electrical tape over most or even all of the light bar on top but this still dont help the Tritium lit part of the reticle. It is definately a good tough optic that you can really throw around and you wont hurt it. It also most definately holds its zero pretty much no matter what. Perhaps the absolute best advice I can give anyone thinking about hunting with an ACOG is without a doubt do not spend that much money until you have at least looked thru one at the edge of dark preferrably on a rifle the same as yours. Good luck.

It's not too bright in low light conditions, If anything it could be brighter. The tritium does not provide a real bright aiming point in the dark. The fiber optic tube is useless in the dark, unless you have some artifitial or moon light to help. In fact, during the day, under extra bright conditions, you may need to cover up some of the fiber optic tube to dampen it some. During low light though, the more the better.

I have two of the ACOG TA02 4X32 LEDs so I could turn off the reticule light if I want to or turn it on, works fantastic out past 250 yards.

Have shot many coyotes, possums, coons, @ 200 yards plus with no problem sunup, sundown, and nightime.
