Triple Deuce Loads

Well I finally figured out I was fighting a bad scope. Now I need some loads. You have any favorites that might shoot out of a Model 70 Winchester with a sporter barrel? They don't have to be blistering fast, just accurate as this rifle will probably never see the woods.

Thanks

Benchmark/748 and 52gr Speer FB HP/40gr NBT. I use the 52's for coyote hunting Win. Model 70 and Sako Vixen and the 40 gr NBT's for varmints and targets. Load data is available in massive amounts and it seems it is harder to fine a load that doesn't shoot well.

Why not get it out and hunt with it. there are a couple of us here that use the 222 for most of our coyote hunting. It's pretty hard to find a better round for colony varmints.

Don't know about today but back in the day most benchrest bullets were flat base. They work well for me but I used the 40 gr NBT in my 222 Rem Egg Shoot gun because they feed better in that gun and the difference in group size was negligible for shooting eggs at 150 yards..

The 52gr Speers have been accurate in just about everything I've shot them in and are one of the best fur friendly bullets I've used, I shoot them in the 222, 5.6x50R Mag and the 22-250. I'm going to give them a shot in my 1894CL in 218 Bee this summer, the big HP should work in the tube mag.

Back when I had a .222, I was shooting IMR4198 and 52gr TNTs or Blitz, its been quite a while. It was a Rem 722 with 26" barrel.

H4198 and the 52 grain Speer HP's shot really well considering it started raining and the wind came up pretty hard. Still very acceptable groups on the upper end of the loads. Dime size 5 shot groups at 100yds.

Can't remember the exact load offhand but I believe it is H4198 with a 39gr sierra. I'm shooting a Browning Abolt and was hopeful to shoot heavier bullets like 50 gr. Everything I tried I could not get it to group well with anything heavier than 40 gr. 39 gr had similar groups as yours, dime size group 100 yards.

h322 imr 4198 and rel 7 rem mod 721 50gn vmax. The 40gn vmax boat tail is the only bullet that my rifle shot horribly 2 inch group at best. The flat base sierra 40gn flat base done fine

Bill, typical duce loads run from 19.5-20.5g of H4198, Rem 7 1/2, with a 52g benchrest bullet. Seat the bullet to just touch the lands, play with .005 and .010 off the lands.

I shot the 45g sierra spt, 50g sierra blitz, 50g sierra spt, 52g speer match, 52 & 53g Sierra match on coyotes that all worked very well.

Way back when benchrest shooters were pulling the 222 barrels off their 40x's and going to 6 ppc's, I was buying every used Rem 40x in 222 I could find for $50.

If you can find any 52g speer benchrest bullets, you will love them as they do not break the bank and are accurate.

If you like blowing up a coyote, then a max load of H335 and a 55g Sierra lead tip blitz will just blow your mind in accuracy and terminal ballistics.
