I have a ballhead conversion on my aluminum dg, using arca plate when possible ( my bolt guns I haven't worked on yet). Much nicer(lighter better balance) carrying the tripod without the dg clamp. One of my TC dimension stocks will definitely have an arca plate mounted before winter. It's very comfortable(and accurate) shooting on a large bench top, with the dg legs out "flat". Very precise way to practice shooting(sighting in) duplicating the way the rifle will be supported while hunting.
