With December well on its way im starting to feel the pressure to get out there and make the most of the season and try to stack some fur.
Today I decided that even if i can get in one stand at the end of the work day its worth it, who knows how many full days of hunting ill get in the next month.
Earlier that morning i had heard some coyotes howling in the hills while checking wells so thats the place im going to go to after work. Have seen a few around but with the nice weather i rarely see one after 11am. I know they are making the best out of the mild weather at night.

I forgot my drag cord in my other sweater pocket and i really dont like dragging them by hand to i walk in only as far as i have to, its cloudy today with a slight wind that alternates from south to east, its tricky to find a good spot with good visibility on the bushy hills and trying to predict where the coyotes will come from is near impossible buy there are a few good guesses as to the general area they are in, they keep out of the wind, follow drainage's and deer trails.

I pick a spot and point the rifle in the direction with the most line of sight, near some buck brush and little poplars

grab the carver swift call and give some distress nothing special just a waaa waaa waaa and wait. not 5 min later a coyote pair emerge from the bush 50 yard in front of me, trouble is the rifle is not pointed in their direction, the male is in front he is scanning around until he sees me, flicks his tail and takes a step back and starts heading up the hillside to higher ground. hes wary of me but i remain still and he doesnt know what i am. the female sits down and just looks. Iknow i dont have much of a chance to pick up the rifle and point it at them, the male would spook right away so i just hang tight and watch to see how things will play out. The male is at the top of the hill slowly moving towards the down wind but suddenly turns and so does the female as a third coyote comes in on the same trail they did. right behind him a fourth coyote. the male on the hill runs at the new coyote pair and the female sort of slinks around the side of the hill. i take this opportunity to position the rifle and let out a low waaa on the call. soon a coyote emerges and the 204 lays him down, i grab the carver ruthless rabbit and start kiyi another coyote moves into view and another 39grn hits the heart she adrenaline dives 20 feet into the bush and done.

RIGHT ON SWEET i think, ohh man now i have to drag 2 back by hand argh! i waited and let out more kiyi to see if the other 2 coyotes would show up but they took off. after walking up to them i quickly see that these are staying where they are, they stink and have shoulder mites with ugly brown pink bellies. Ohh well guess the fur check wont be getting a boost today.
