ultrasonic for BCG

I got a RCBS ultrasonic cleaner for cheap and was wondering if anyone here has used a ultrasonic for cleaning your BCG and what you used as a solution. Or any solutions or chemicals to stay away from.

Buddy of mine just got the Hornady cleaner & is raving about how great it cleaned his BCG...he is using the detergent/cleaning solution sold by Hornady. I might have him put mine in for a good clean up.

I use the Hornady parts cleaner in my Hornady Ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning my AR bolts and other gun parts, and it works great. Sure you can always make up your own "Cheaper" cleaner, but I will stick with what works for me.

It came with the rcbs cleaner just wasn't sure if the cleaners had anything in them that would hurt the finish or anything like that. Kinda figured no but thought I would check one thing I have read about them is let them get up to temp first before using them.

Derek-
Start out with the hottest water you can get out of the tap-
It will save you that time
If working around wife's sink -- also get plastic colander to put brass in to rinse ---
You will still eventually loose one into the disposal ---
Flashlight and super long needle nose pliers will help with that

I would NOT put anything flammable in one of these
Thanks-- enjoy

I have done a ton of testing with different household cleaners. Just about anything with citrus works well. The BEST thing I have found is regular old water with a squirt of fast orange and a sprinkle of barkeepers friend. Cleans extremely good.

Vinegar works very good too, but is much more expensive.

I use plain ole water and about 2 ounces of real lemon juice. Just remember to rinse good after taking them out or they will tarnish again, quickly! An don't let them stay in the solution overnight, they turn some funky colors that even a tumbler won't get rid of.

I won't use the Ed's Red stuff in my Sonic Cleaner. Acetone is highly flammable and there can be sparks in the Sonic Cleaner from Harbor Freight.

It says to NOT use any thing flammable in the tank or it could start a fire.

Maybe if you use a long extension cord and do this outside on a nice day away from the house and garage. That way you won't risk burning the house down doing it with flammable liquids where you have the possibility of a spark occurring in the machine.

Safety first is my Motto.

I read this a few week ago before I bought my Harbor Freight Ultra Sonic Cleaner and read the manual from cover to cover.

There is a lot of warnings in the manual. I read them all.

I see where he said to use it in a well ventilated area when mixing the solution up and to store it in a proper container.

Are you guys using this to just clean the rifle and not putting this RA mixture in the sonic cleaners? Maybe I misunderstood what was going on here.

I did not add the acetone (optional) when I mixed mine.
