understanding lunar cycle

I usually hunt 3 days a week and lately have been watching my gps and the lunar cycle. I cant say that I am sold on the info. Does anyone else use the info. For instance I have a place that I just got permission to hunt and I found 15 piles of coyote scat in 1 mile of road through the place. The gps says bad for tonight. I feel like I will do fine. Is there enough to the lunar stuff that I should not hunt when it calls conditions bad

I would say if you feel good go for it, some times
you gut feelings won't let you down. Keep a log
and compare it to what ever you are basing you info from. Go hunting, have fun, be safe.. Joe

lunar influences change the odds some, either somewhat in your favor or somewhat against you.

the predicted "good" times to hunt won't guarantee success, and at times during the predicted "poor" times you will succeed. this may explain why some folks say lunar influences are meaningless; they haven't kept records over a long period of time and have had experiences on a day or two that contradict the predictions.

if you were a gambler and knew for sure the slot machines were going to pay out better on one day compared to another, would you tend to gamble on that "good" day? but that doesn't mean you wouldn't gamble at all on the other days, because you might hit it big then, too.

take a look at www.primetimes2.com.

i've kept records, as have others, and have seen the patterns over a long period of time.

reality doesn't give you 100% control over your time and when you CAN hunt; perhaps most hunters head out whenever they have the time available. but if you were advance-planning a week's vacation for hunting, take into account the lunar phases and day-by-day positions and schedule that vacation when solar and lunar influences are strongest, giving yourself better odds.

rnix - Don't worry about lunar tables when it comes to coyote hunting. There is no ROOM SERVICE for them, and they must eat daily to survive regardless of the moon. Blow a call, and if you've done things right they will come.

I've notice slightly better bass fishing going by lunar tables, but never enough to make me stay home.

If you want to base a hunt on something, base it on storm systems. Animals, (especially whitetail) seem to be more active before a storm. To a lesser degree coyotes act the same.

Hunt every chance you get no matter what the forcast for the moon or weather says and you'll do fine.

Good luck hunting, Sleddogg

Thanks for the help. We didnt ever make it to the spot I had picked out but we did very well. We are actually are making a video. We got 1 40 pound bobcat,1 28pound bobcat, 1 24pound bobcat,1 grey fox, 1 coon, 1 opossum. The 40 pound cat we called in and my 12 year old nephew nailed it with my 220 swift and its all on video.I dont have the savy yet to post but I have a person that is going to teach me sometime soon when thy edit our footage.I am going to check out the web site sagebrush spoke of I would like to know more about the lunar stuff. Anyway thanks again and dont forget make sure the young ones get out there.

The only lunar advice that I have is the less moon while hunting at night the better.

Watch the weather fronts, and you will have more luck. Coyotes do have to eat everyday. They are opportunists and have no set dinner time.

I got the opportunity to watch a jack rabbit running wide open come over a hill. I thought "something is after that little guy". Sure enough here came a coyote right behind him. I got to watch about 2 minutes of the chase and that rabbit could have ran circles around that yote. The jack actually looked like he was enjoying it. Point is that some yotes have a little harder time in making a living then others.

The moon....usually.....means alot when it comes to hunting coyotes. The moon affects many animals feeding habits, but we are talking predators here I think? We have gone over this subject a trillion tims lol. Let me tell you what I think the best time is in the world of night time predator calling....new moon, new moon, new moon, or first an last quarters are usually best. Animals can be called under any moon phase, but if you want the best time to do it for the most action, that's it. I can give you some examples of new moon hunting vs full moon hunting if you wish, but I trust you'll take my word for it lol, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Good Hunting.
