Unofficial FoxPro Spitfire Volume Test

After a few blank stands recently I was wondering just how loud the Spitfire really is. It never sounds very loud to me. We have been dealing with winds for months.

I had my hunting partner stay at a spot that I ranged at 625 yds. I fired up the Spitfire with distressed pups and he called me and said it sounded very clear. This was with a 15mph crosswind. We were both pretty surprised.

So I'm guessing a minimum of 700 yd radius over rolling bare farm ground. According to my public school education math, that is about 318 acres. Much greater than I had ever imagined. That is with human hearing. No wonder it takes a long time sometimes to get them in. Of course that's not including obstructions such as trees ditches etc. But pretty impressive I thought.

For you guys that hunt tracts covering thousands of acres it may not mean much. But our largest single tracts are usually under 300 acres. So a couple of sets should cover them.

Interesting. I'd imagine that if you needed more volume you could plug in an amplified horn like the Cass Creek. I noticed they were on sale the other day for about 40 bucks.

Seems like an inexpensive way to get some extra volume. Does the Spitfire have an external speaker jack?

I'm not real concerned with the number of sounds on any given unit. I doubt many people use over about 10 sounds consistently.

Sorry for the hi-jack.

I bought the Foxpro SP-55 external speaker for my Spitfire and couldnt tell a difference. I never used it and sold it. The Spitfire is probaly loud enough stock.

I added the SP55 speaker to my Spitfire and it gained a lot of volume. When I play it with both speakers you can hardly hear the cone speaker in the Spitfire and the SP55 will be screaming. Funny how different things work different for some of us.

I've been in some really windy conditions where I thought louder was better, but for most calling I've become convinced that most of us are calling too loud.

My Spitfire has always been plenty loud and I hunt very large tracts of land in north central Texas. I've never had any problem with not having enough volume and I agree with Stu, a lot of times we start calling way too loud and blow the predators right out of the area.
