UPS is down on the bottom of my list

Got a package damaged on Jan. 8th. Still waiting on settlement.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I will not use them anymore !!

I will only use FedEx, UPS has downright refused to ship my guns at times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif
FedEX just basically asked a few questions and away it goes. Its a bit more expensive but Ill pay a bit more if I dont have the headaches. And I rarely have to ship any firearms, only 2 with problems and a few for upgrades. Last one cost me 60 bucks, ND to FL

Good luck

Dave

UPS got the job done for us. Nothing to brag about.
Fed Ex in our area, I think the drivers own the routes. Locally there were some weapons stolen within the company at night. So I encourage insurance. One of those stolen was a friends.

There can definately be ignorance on either side of the counter, but you need to know their rules, if you tried to ship a firearm at a UPS store or third party retailer, they can't accept it due to UPS's rules, read em and print em, and take the firearm to one of their recommended shipping points and show em their own rules if they give you a problem, I've had to do that myself, they just need educating, it's easier for them to refuse a shipment than look it up in their regs. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Getting Your Firearm Shipment to UPS
You can only ship your package that contains a handgun from UPS daily pickup accounts or through UPS Customer Centers (counters at UPS operational facilities). Note: Handguns are not accepted for shipment through UPS Internet Shipping, UPS Drop Boxes, or UPS On-Call PickupSM, or at The UPS Store® or any third party retailer.
When you are shipping a package that contains a handgun, you must verbally notify the UPS driver or UPS Customer Center clerk.
You can ship a firearm (excluding handguns, which are discussed above), from a UPS daily pickup account, UPS On-Call Pickup, One-Time Pickup, or a UPS Customer Center. Note: Firearms are not accepted for shipment through UPS Internet Shipping, UPS Drop Boxes, or at The UPS Store or any third party retailer.
See the terms and conditions in the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service for information regarding firearm shipments.

Hey SONGDOG, are you a FFL? It makes a difference. Check the FEDEX website, but I don't think they will accept handguns from a non-FFL. UPS will, as stated earlier they must be declared and shipped overnight. UPS has what they call the "SAVER" option that is afternoon delivery and saves a few $.

Watch the overall size of your package because in addition to weight they measure the size to determine shipping cost. Once I included an extra set of grips in a sale. It was cheaper to mail the grips USPS, in a separate package, than to increase the overall size of the UPS package.

Only UPS "employees" can accept a handgun. That means you cannot drop it off at a franchised UPS store or "shipping" store.

UPS rules have been flip-flopping on the adult signature requirement on the receiving end. I always ask for it. Just a little more protection for me. Keep your tracking numbers and log onto UPS's site, then you know exactly when it was delivered.

It seems that everywhere I have sent a handgun in the lower 48, the cost has been $45-55.
