Use of feathers as a decoy

Hi all! I'm new to this site and to the sport. I have obtained alot of info about predator hunting while searching the PM board. I've been reading about the use of decoys while on stand and have noticed that some of you use a feather(or feathers) tied to a tree or bush while hunting. What I'd like to know is-do you use a single feather-a small wing? How high(or low) should you place off the ground. Any size or color preference? Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Wishbone

I don't know the answer, but I have had a similar thought. We own an old feed-mill the is no longer in business. This means we own about 1,000,000 pigeons, and there nesting grounds! somethime we catch a few to train new bird dogs easily. I was thinking about using one with a stand of fishing line tied to its leg as a decoy. I think something that is alive, and smells like a bird should work regardless of what sound brought in the yote. What do you guys think? It was something I have thought about, but not yet tried.

..... I might suggest hitting your local yard sales, with any luck one might run across a feather boa. This is easily caried to and from the stand, wrapped provocatively around your neck. Tossed and waved on stand I would imagine no predator could resist the alluring qualities. Why use one feather, when many could possibly triple your odds?

The Predator Enticer decoy from Come-Alive Decoy is just what you're talking about: a bunch of feathers on a spring that rips around like a bird caught in a string. Click on their logo when it shows on the banners here or go to www.tail-wagger.com

A coyote is a sight oriented animal, it picks up on any movement natural or otherwise. We use the decoy to get attention away from the hunter or on the e-caller itself. The size doesn't matter,it can be a large single feather or the wing of a starling or blackbird on a string.Place ti just a few feet from the ground where the wind can activate it.The slightest breeze will give it a wiggle they won't miss. I like the predator eniticer as well. They will not make up for mistakes the hunter makes but they can help. Jimmie
