Using Lapping Compound On New Weapon

Hey guys, I posted this question in the "Firearms" Forum, but thought I'd get responses over here as well. Any of you guys ever use Lapping Compound on a new weapon to loosen her up and make the action smoother on a bolt gun? If so, what grit works the best for this purpose. Thx for putting up with the question.

FWIW, I used some JB bore paste and it seemed to work on a rough CZ243 I had. Smearded it up good and just opened and close the bolt one night wathching TV

I've never done it because I have a concern that the lapping compound will get on the back of the bolt lugs, and open up the headspace of the chamber.. Not sure if I should be concerned about this, but that's why I don't do it. Maybe someone who actually knows whether or not it's an issue will post about it.
I've heard of guys using JB Bore Paste, and one guy used automotive polishing compound to smooth up his action. It's the polishing compound you use to clean up a car's paint before waxing it; sold in the Auto section of different stores.
