Hopefully I put this in the correct forum, sorry if I did not.

These "tournaments" always crack me up. I've hunted in a hand full of them and it's extremely rare that everyone plays by the rules. Good luck if it's only one or two teams with NV. May as well give them the $$$ before you leave.

I don't think they are going anywhere. In fact, there are more of them and more people entering them every year. Not everyone likes tournament hunting but a lot of us do. The NV guys kicked are butts this year but we managed to stay competitive and bring in plenty of fur. We are switching over to thermal and NV next year to step things up. It's not for everyone but some of us have a blast doing it.

I think you have to have separate classes for these to make it fair. NV/Thermal in one, conventional lights in another. As long as you have enough participants that is.

I appreciate your positive comments rcpanic, hope you can make it out to the event, I am also trying to make the switch to NV to be a little more competitive. The store owner has only held this tournament 2-3 times with taking very little to win it since NV has not become very popular around this area yet. Therefore the guys running conventional lights would easily be competitive in this event, unless of course there is a much larger turnout than previous years or if some guys with NV enter. I do believe if the topic was brought to the owner about splitting it into 2 classes and he had enough teams to run each class he would split it, maybe not this year since it would be late notice but probably next. However I may be wrong but the way CW comments I believe he may have gotten whooped by some guys with NV in the past leading him to not be a fan of tournaments, just my opinion. I am neither hosting or have any affiliation with this tournament besides participation in it, I was simply trying to help spread the word for a small business owner.

I am not exactly sure rcpanic I think the best turnout he has had before was something like 8-10 teams, but me and several other guys from the area have been trying to get the word out a little more this year. And don't worry vitals I haven't made any dent in the population of the coyotes either lol.

I've been holding hunts in va for 4 years now, learned a lot along the way. For these to be successful polygraph testing must take place, when you have guys that roll in to check in that use nv/thermal with 8-10 animals everyone automatically accuses them of cheating. That will get rid of most of the bs, however you may also turn away a lot of teams by allowing nv and thermal to be used. It's hard for a man to give away his hard earned money knowing that he doesn't kill that many animals with red lights, I'm not saying that using lights is bad or you can't beat someone with nv, I've done it several times but nv/thermal is a huge advantage. It would be very difficult to have separate classes, it's hard to find that many participants.

Yeah, I agree. In no way am I accusing them of cheating, but it is an edge. If you have enough people in each, then separate divisions is the way. If you say no NV allowed, they'll still use it.

I personally use nv and thermal now, when I go out Huntin whether it's a tournament or pleasure Huntin I want every advantage I can get. I am going out to be successful and kill predators. Some people feel that nv should not be allowed on these hunts but if a man is willing to spend thousands of dollars on his equipment to do what he loves more power to him!

I agree 100% I would order NV tonight if I had the money, I have been a few times with other guys who were owners of NV and loved it. With the polygraph testing I'm sure the store owner would look into it if he had enough participation, I am not positive but have heard that it can be costly.

No we are 100% payback we raise the money for our polygraph and then it is donated to the sporting goods shop that hosts our hunts for us. We used to have excellent turnouts when every team used lights, then came along the nv and the teams dwindled. We usually have between 5-12 teams. We have had as many as 25 teams compete.

Cool. I think some of you guys from up that way came down to hunt the Dances contest with us this year. We had 52 teams the first weekend...the most ever. The guys that won the overall showed us their NV gear. We are all about to spend a lot of money. lol Maybe next year I'll get a few teams to come up there and hunt your contest.
